I'm building a computer at the moment and when I put it together it doesn't turn on.

The computer is.
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    ABIT AB9, P965,
    OCZ Gold PC6400 DDR2 2048MB Dual Pack,
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM
    Fortron/Source Powersupply ATX 650W EPS12V, SATA, 24/20pin
    Gainward GeForce 7900GT
When I turn it on
  • The LED for the power supply is connected with the power source is on but the system power LED doesn't.
    No fans turn on.
At the bottom of the motherboard, the error message 8.2. comes on which means "Enable ATX power supply".
Also the power supply makes a whiny beep about every 5 seconds

I've cleared the CMOS, no leads seem to be loose and all jumpers seem to be ok. It turns out that the power supply is a server one, does this make a difference? Have I damaged any parts do you think? What could have caused this to happen? Thanks

WHat connectors do you have connected to the motherboard from the powersupply??

It could just be a bad PSU. If at all possible try another one. That would be the easiest way. Maybe someone with experience with the AB9 will be able to help a little more.

What jph1589 said.

You only need the psu, ram, processor, and video connected to post. So just try powering up with only 1 stick of ram, no hdd. If that fails, reconnect everything. Make certain you've set the processor right, etc. These basics are what cause most post failures.

I messed around with it for a bit and its working now, must have been a loose lead somewhere, Thanks.
