I have a Duron 600Mhz on a Lucky Star K7VAT, VIA KT133 chipset MotherBoard, I know It´s not the best board.

It is currently running at 100*9 = 900Mhz, but if I change the multiplier to 10 I get a "Windows Protection Error while loading device NTKERN" message when it starts to load windows. And if I change it to anything above 10 I get "Bios Check Sum Error"

Does anyone know what either of those messages means. Why can´t I hit 1000Mhz or above, I have modefied the L7 bridges so my CPU is at 1,85V and I can´t get any higher. But it ran fine on 100*8, when the CPU core was at 1.65 , so that´s not the problem.

One other problem I have is that I can´t raise the FSB not even to 105Mhz if I do it don´t even show "post-screeen", what´s up with that. I have a a witch on the motherboard that say´s 100 or 133, but when I change it to 133 the computer will not even start.

Can anyone help me, I really want to break 1000Mhz.

Ps. Sorry for my crappy English I´m from Finland.

Well, the windows error are probably stating that you have reached the highest MHz on that proc that your gonna get. Consider it good to get the extra 300MHz on it. That's a 50% overclock. Most would consider that a very nice OC.

What are your temps on the processor, this just might be the source of your problem. If it is over 45c then you might wanna chill it a bit. Although i don't think the earlier durons really pumped out all that much heat.

What kind of ram do you have. Is it PC133 or PC100? If it's PC100 then you may not be able to up the FSB all that much, especially to 133. I know my duron 850 wouldn't handle 133 FSB either. It just went to a blank screen.

Once you do get the processor to the point where your happy, try stesstesting it with [email protected] for a couple of years :D

I don´t think the heat is any problem it´s about 39 - 42c.

So u mean it´s the CPU, even if I changed the motherboard I won´t get to 1000Mhz, that sucks!!
Thank you for the answers though.

42c seems quite high for a duron - my 650 always ran at 29-35c.

Try reducing the mulitplier to about 6 and change the FSB to 133. That should give you 800MHz - and the higher FSB will really increase performance.

9x100MHz is a good overclock - dont feel disappointed :)

I had used a Duron 600 and 900 mhz was basically as high as I could get it too. I could get it to boot a little higher but it was unstable. I would say that without better cooling that a 400 mhz overclock might not be possible. With the FSB problem it could be the memory. You might want to check your memory settings in the BIOS.

Scalpel to cut, pencil/conductive ink to close :)

The memory is 133 and I have selected that in the bios, but I still cant´t get it to boot even @ 105Mhz........

What PCI cards do you have?
They can often cause problems.

What exactly happens at 105MHz FSB?

The only PCI - card I have is Realtech ethernet card, but I´ve tried to remove but it stilll the same problem.
FSB @105 it wont even show post screen it´s just black.

The only thing I can think of, is that I haven´t got the right drivers for my monitor, can that be a problem??

I doubt the monitor drivers are a problem - they only affect the system after it boots windows.

Looks like FSB overclocking is out then. My KT133 board is a pathetic overclocker. Does 106MHz FSB reasonably stable, 104MHz is the highest it will go while staying completely stable.

600 at 900 MHz is an admirable overclock; that's a full 50% yield; for free! whee! You could probably get more with two more things - more voltage, and more cooling. About 1000 is tops for most 850MHz and lower; the old Spitfire core and aluminum interconnect process are the limiting factors with the old Durons and Athlons.

104MHz FSB stable is about all you can expect for a KT133 chipset, too. They were only meant for 100MHz FSB speeds; 133 is totally out of the picture with these boards. Heck, 110 is usually totally out of the picture, unless the board was a Abit, Asus, or IWill. The KT133 just wasn't made for high FSB speeds like the KT133A and more recent chipsets were.
