Hi Everyone,

I've recently built a new system as follows

P4 3.2 Prescott
ASUS P4P-800-E Motherboard
1GB Kingmax RAM
ATI 9800 XT
2X 200GB SATA HDD's
Antec Sonata Case with 380W PSU

The problem is that when powering on everything seems to get power but the pc wont make post beep and no display on the screen at all. After trying with another known working CPU and Vid Card it still had the same problem so i assumed the motherboard was at fault and had it replaced.

With the new motherboard the problem is identical. PC gets power but no post beep and no display on screen. I've tested with a known working CPU but still no post. Does anybody have any ideas / suggestions on what the problem could be and what i could try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your help but i have read your article and i'm still unable to fix this problem. My main problem is that when booting the PC is not even making post. (no beeps) i was under the impression that if this is the case the problem is either the Motherboard or CPU. I have now tried two identical motherboards after having one replaced and have tested with a known working CPU and still has the same fault. My question is apart from these two devices is there anything else that could be causing this problem??

Cheers

Glad you read my article. Sorry it didn't help... :( .
Have you tested your setup outside of the case? Something may be shorting the motherboard. Also, what parts have you swapped out so far?

Hi Matt,

So far 2 of the same Motherboards have been tested along with another known working CPU and Video Card. Havent even tried connecting HDD's or CDROM's yet. I just want it to make post. I'm about to try another PSU but i dont see how it could be the problem considering Power seems to go through the motherboard fine to all the fans.

Cheers for your help.

You never know, it still might be the power supply. In addition to trying a different power supply. Try a different power cable. Also, you did use thermal grease? The first time I build a PC, I forgot thermal grease and for the longest time I had no idea what happened. After about a month of working on it, I finally realized what I forgot. :bang head

Good luck!
Matt
