Well guys... gotta' tell ya'... if you would have told me the last time I bought a PC that I'd want to start 'Clocking' the first day I bring home my next PC I'd told you you were all nuts! :)

Then being as things are, I tend to hold on to a new PC for 4~5 years before making a move. Good thing too, because what I'm picking up today would have cost me the price of a decent used car, PLUS my marriage it I'd done it a year ago. :-/

But... time marches on, prices go down, and presto... here I am. (And learning a BUNCH from you guys just lurking the last few days.)

What I need is a basic, 1;2;3 approach to over clocking this new beast. Don't need to go totally crazy and add fluid cooling and air conditioning, but would REALLY like to boost this puppy a bit just for the fun of it. Figured this is THE one and only place to start, right?

For the particulars...
ASUSP4C800-E Deluxe 800FSB, Intel 3.2 GHz 800FSB 1MB L2, 1GB (twin sticks dual sided Samsung 2 x 512) PC3200/DDR400. (Don't have exact part number though on the RAM and... (Please don't get after me about the Samsung RAM... it was that or Kingston from this shop so I'll try the Samsung first.) [Figure I can always change later]
Oh... for video ATI Radeon 128MB
WD 120GB 7200 8Mb IDE
2 x WD 120GB SATA (RAID 0)
Full tower, 5 fans, plus 450wPS with dual fans.

Now what? :burn:

Figure before I get serious with installing all my apps, (which typically takes 3 days or so) while the thing is clean with only XP Pro is when I need to start 'clocking'. Also, whatever utilities I may need to D/L to manage, track & test all this please LMK about and I'll D/L'd them.

I get the part about running syncronous, so I'm assuming I need to address the FSB on the CPU and the RAM at the same time. That's the first place I'd like to start. And while we're on the subject of RAM... Could I just step it up from PC3200/DDR400? (Yep, get the math there on how to arrive at 3200)

I know it's asking a lot in my first message, especially as I've not seen the BIOS yet... but... hell I'm ready to make this puppy SCREAM as soon as I get it in the door!

So tell me guys, if you had to come up with a list of say the first 6 things to do, what would that list be? (He say's with his hat in his hand, smiling and looking up like he's praying.)

Once I (we) get the thing 'clocked up', then I'll want to see what we can do with the video card. ;)

Thanks Guys!!!

R u trying to overclock a prescott, if so get the cpu cooling covered first...you're going to need it for more mhz, do a wire management it helps a lot and some nice airflow on your case.......
