Hi ya'll!
I'm currently oc-ing my P3 coppermine 667 (133) and I can't seem to get to the same results others do. It's running stable at 775Mhz, but as I push it to 800 (160 FSB) it won't even bootup anymore....

I use a Asus Cu4x motherboard and have set the core voltage to 1.75. In the database I found some guys going to 850 with the same setup.

Anyone with some good advice? (I just can't stand it when I can't get something to work.....)
Thanx:cool:

You have to remember that FSB=160 really is HIGH! The problem with your chip is that its "B" chip, so it doesn't leave much headroom for overclocking.

Try upping the core voltage some more (to say 1.85), and be sure to have proper cooling. Cooling is essential to overclocking.

What temperatures are you reading?

Don't get your hopes up, sorry.

For cooling I use a thermaltake cooler with a copper base.
the temp of my CPU is currently 23 C (according to sandra sisoft)
I am wondering to what extend it is safe to increase the core voltage (I have no buget for a new CPU......)

As I am kinda new to this; what is a good test to stress my CPU to see just 'how hot it gets'?

I know FSB=160 is high, but the system has absolutly no problem with running at 155...

You Can't Believe Everything People Say on their Overclocking Database

Alot of those post are just EGO TRIPS & Bragging Right .
They will go to extreme for the ### MHZ while sacrificing Stability.

I'm not saying that people are liar, but I'm saying that YOU NEED to BE REALISTIC .

The way I do it is by "eliminating" all top 12 Posted Speed. Since these Overclock speed are reach either by Extreme Voltage Mod or Extreme Cooling like WaterPipe.

Somewhere between 12-24 post is the Realistic Overclocking Speed.

In your case, expecting 166fsb is simply too much

i know how ya feel i have a p3 733 133fsb. it will run stable at 825
150fsb but anything past that and it gets flakeyit will boot and run then crash at 880. but i usually dont get higher then 875 stable.

my temps are low cooling is good board has good options, just no go..

My setup is based on the ASUS CUSL2 (i815E) mobo, with BIOS v1009, and 2 x 256 MB Crucial PC133 (CL=2) SDRAM.

I've done few adjustments in BIOS Menu previous to overclock my system, in order to increase stability:

[ADVANCED]
CPU Level 2 Cache ECC Check : Enabled

[ADVANCED > Chip Configuration]
SDRAM (?) Signaling : Strong

With the FSB/SDRAM/PCI in BIOS adjusted to 166/166/42 MHz, my P3 800EB is running stable at 1.0 GHz. Such high fsb may cause instabilty if more than one DRAM module is installed, so I'm using only one 256 MB module, 3-2-2-5/7 (great Crucial modules :D )

Before the installation of a SB Audigy MP3+ (w/ SB1340), my computer handled 200/150/50 MHz and 2-2-2-5/7 smoothly, using both DRAM modules, resulting in amazing 1.2 GHz

I'm using no special cooling feature. With the original boxed heat sink + fan, the CPU temperature is always under 48 C (29 C ambient... hot days in Brazil this time of year :) )

If you are interested in my SANDRA2001 benchmarks, I can show you the results.

Amazin results! As said before my system won't even boot at 166 fsb. It's not the temp. (even stressed it is 43 C tops).

Maby I should flash my bios since it is a very early version, but I have no experience with that and I am kinda worried about the results.....

(and by all means, show your sisoft benchmarks)

Sicco1:

A BIOS update maybe of help. I flash my BIOS at each new version since v1001A and its safe. Go to the ASUS web site, find the latest BIOS of your mobo and the flasher, follow the instructions and you're done!

Here are my SANDRA2001te results. VCore is set at 1.75V (default):

The last line was obtained with my previous configuration (HD Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60, 60.5 GB, 7.200 rpm and no audio card). I believe I can reach these frequencies with my IBM 60GXP and no SB Audigy, as well. If the audio card is installed I can't get a stable system if PCI is greater than 43 MHz.

I can't see great increases in the scores with 2x 256 MB RAM. I wonder, if I have a graphics card, the results would be greater...

In time, the correct option in the [Advanced > Chip Configuration] section is:

SDRAM Data Driving Mode : Strong

That will marginally increase the power to your DRAM banks.
