I have a Compaq Presario 9546, came with P I 100Mhz, 8MRam, 19.2K modem, 4X cdrom. Since date of purchase, I have added 266MMX P I, 106MRam, 56K, HP7200i cd-writer, USB pci-card.I am looking for speed. The MB jumpers are as follows.
BUS jumpers 1-2 50Mhz, 2-3 40Mhz, 3-4 60Mhz, 4-5 66Mhz. MULTIPLIER jumpers are 2 rows of 3 pins, here are my options 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0. Since adding my new CPU, I have set t he jumpers to 66Mhz, and 3.0. AND added an oversized aluminum heatsink, and fan, since the MB is vertical in the middle of the case, I had 1 1/2 inches of space before i hit the side cover, so I had to modify (cut a square)into my side cover to allow my fan to sit on the heatsink (has to be screwed onto the HS after the side cover was in place).. I want MORE MORE MORE speed, boosting RAM obviously did help some , and my processor is running waaaaay cooler than it was. What happens if I pull the BUS jumpers off (leave them open), and the same for the MULTIPLIER? I do have an extra CPU (166 P I) I dont really want to take a chance of frying anything, but will if necessary. Can anyone please shed some light on my situation. I am currently building an overclocker (633 Celeron, liquid cooled, any recommendations on boards?) I am leaning towards the Intel 815E email me or if on AOL, feel free to IM me.. [email protected] OH and, is there anyway of telling how fast the cpu is truly running ?
