Help with doing shunt mod On GTX 1070 ASUS DUAL

Hi im thinking on doing this to my gpu, but im worried about if its safe for 24/7 or not

I know that liquid metal is going to damage my card, so i want to try soldering tin on the 0M5-0M2=R002-R005 shunts

Do i have to solder both? or i can do on one instead? what is the difference in them? Someone made that of this way?

I saw a lot of ways of doing this like, soldering resistors to the voltage chip controller, but seems hard to do and i dont want to break my gpu
So thanks for every advice and sorry for my bad english, this is not my native language

My current oc settings are 2050mhz max on core and 8858 on mem, on afterburner my voltage is everytime my limitant

Solder is a lot more permanent and will void the warranty, Liquid metal stays liquid which also has it's own drawbacks when in a vertical position. This mod only increases the power limits on the card, not the voltage. I's not likely you are voltage limited at this point
 
My card warranty has already expired, i preffer soldering i can remove it, more power draw more voltage input, the real question is, i have to solder both shunts? or just one? and who?

You really should know what you are changing the resistance of that 0.005 ohm resistor you. Circuit uses Ohm's law to calculator power draw so its looking at the voltage drop across that resistor.


And I don't see you gaining much. Just looked at that card. Cooler looks pretty bad so you will get some thermal downclocking Even with the fans at 100%.



Personally I wouldn't do it. How they made the card it would be hard to water cool it. And at that point its best to just sell it and get a used 1080ti instead of water cooling. And the TDP you will gain from doing a mod you are going to hit the second wall what will be thermals. Im watercooled so I cant remember offhand how it throttles but I think its.


50c 12mhz

55c 25mhz

60c 37mhz

65c 50mhz

70c 62mhz

75c 75mhz

80c 88mhz

85c base clock



So if you are loading at 75-80c its pretty pointless doing the shunt mod since you are hitting the thermal wall pretty hard.




But there will be 2 shunts for that card. One for the connector, one for the pcie power. Don't mess with the one for the pcie power.
