Conducted a Blend test today for around 7 hours @ 4.0Ghz, pretty pleased with the result, temp doesn't seem to have gone too high. Do you think I have room to play with the CPU-NB freq?

You could see how far you can bump it on stock voltage as there not much room to start pumping more volts into the CPU via the CPU/NB but you still should be able to get abou 2400 on stock

Ok, OC'd the CPU-NB to 2.4 Ghz, played Planetside 2 for an hour or so and temp hasn't gone over 30 degrees (good considering this is the most demanding thing I'll be running). What kind of performance increase do you gain from bumping up the CPU-NB freq? Doesn't it essentially allow the RAM to communicate with the CPU faster?

Depending on the speed of the ram and the "power" of the video card you can see some amount of increase in FPS of the game. Less "powerful" video cards running at lesser video resolutions generally see a greater FPS increase if there is one.

Hi again overclockers! I hope I don't offend anyone grave digging.. again :)

I'm back to trying to tweak my system a little more, and have gotten the CPU to 4.2Ghz. I've read around that the next step is tweaking the CPU-NB. Currently mine is sat at 2.4Ghz, but I've read 2.9Ghz is achievable, with scope for higher numbers if desired.
What voltages do I need to be tweaking when messing with the CPU-NB? I've tried setting the CPU-NB to 2.8Ghz on what I'm set at now, but a Prime95 blend test soon comes up with "Hardware failure detected. Test stopped". Could this be to do with the RAM?

Can post screenies if needs be. Thanks in advance for any replies. Hope you're all well.

- Additional question: What sort of voltages for the CPU should I look at start getting worried? Only I'm eager to push the boundaries and not be frightened off by a blue screen, but at what voltage should I stop? Or is it merely dependant on how cool I can keep the system while being blend tested?

1. Don't see your temps as shown in HWMonitor.

2. CPU/NB increases as said before produce 'real' results for fast ram.

3. CPU/NB pushed enough will need CPU/NB of up to 1.35V and I would not exceed that on water or air cooling.

4. I never like to over-volt the cpu beyond 1.525Vcore for 24/7 use and THEN temps as shown in HWMonitor should not exceed 55c for "package" or CPU Core Temps and the other cpu temp of HWMonitor which maybe shown as CPUTIxxx.

That is about it. Have fun experimenting.
