Folks, Currently I have a system with 5.1. An amp of some kind and like 4 plugs that I have been able to plug in for the last 5 Mobo's used in this spot.

I want to simplify it to two speakers(Klipsch or like). What do they make that will plug in to this Mobo. I don't know if I am looking for USB, and I do not want a sound card. Or is it a plug that goes in line out? Budget of $250.

So something like this ? I'll see if I can find slightly higher quality..I was just checking on when I got the 5.1 system I have...It was 21 years ago. :attn:

Yeah those can work, but a question in return - are you looking to get away from having to use a separate amplifier/received all together, or are you looking to just move to a stereo system?

  1. 2/4/5.1-channel
    * You can change the functionality of an audio jack using the audio software. To configure 5.1-channel audio, access the audio software for audio settings.
Back Panel Connectors
  1. 1 x Q-Flash Plus button
  2. 1 x Clear CMOS button
  3. 2 x SMA antenna connectors (2T2R)
  4. 1 x DisplayPort
  5. 1 x USB Type-C® port, with USB 3.2 Gen 1 support
  6. 2 x USB Type-C® ports, with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 support
  7. 7 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports (red)
  8. 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports
  9. 1 x RJ-45 port
  10. 1 x optical S/PDIF Out connector
  11. 2 x audio jacks

Well I know I need powered speakers. I want to get rid of the separate dust collecting amp with 4 wires into the PC. The other 5 I also want to get rid of along with the sub. LF,RF C, LR and RR. plus sub. 2 nice quality powered speakers will be fine. So yes to just Stereo.

Don you have to explain that like I am a 5 year old...I only want stereo no sub, and I want to get away from speakers all over just want 2...Curious tho how 2 audio jacks can do 5.1.

I do not have this system built yet my parts are still rolling in. So I can't try it.

What MB is that?
Gig Z790 Aorus Master X pretty much the same as the non X.

Then yeah, you can get a decent set of studio monitors for <=$250. Unless you get some funky high end set that needs like an XLR cable you can probably get away with USB or straight off that onboard line out.
I like the connectivity of the creative I linked. If I found a set of Klipsch with all that I think that would do. I can do optical off those. Use the BT to send YT music from the phone. They check all the boxes, just worried at $100 they might be crappy sounding. (I am not an audiophile tho);)Hence my lack of knowledge.

I copied it from the manual. The board has "2 audio ports". The software for this MB allows you to select 2 (Stereo)/4 (Quadriphonic [Which I thought was dead in the late '60's])/ 5.1 (Surround with center and bass). How that's actually done, I don't know. I only meant to help get you started.

I assume that you would use one of the audio ports. You'd have a single plug for your speakers. Then you'd want to go into the software and tell the MB that you are using stereo only.

Yeah I guess I can see that one line sends the signal and it is up to the amp/receiver to separate the channels and send it to the speakers...

I am just tired of the 6 speakers collecting dust and my wife listens through ear pods.:D

The other PITA is I pull everything out 3 times a year and have to remember where the darn 4 lines from my current speakers go, as the color coding only matches 2 of the colors. It be nice to have one audio wire, in this case I'll be using the optical and my wife can use her phone or other device through the BT on the speakers.

If you have powered speakers than USB or Optical is the way to go. If USB, grab a good Anker cable for the USB type you need, it'll last forever.

If you find un-powered speakers than I suggest going with a Schitt Stack or the good old AudioEngine N22 (Gen2) as your amplifiers. Mobo DACs are good enough these days that you don't need an external DAC.

Yeah I use the : LINE-OUT via this cable and RCA into any AUX/Tape Input of any reciever, integrated amp, pre-amp.

There's also the BT route which will work with any phone/tablet/laptop via Bluetooth connectivity.

Bluetooth thingy

I'm 10 feet away, using an old android fone as a source for my tunes : Prime music, Youtube and I heartradio. Sound is extremely clean and clear. So for under $50 bux, you can connect just about any method you choose
