okay so i just built this pc about 3 months ago.. First power supply died in two days.. So i came to the forums to look for help..as usual.....Everyone said get an enermax or an antec. Well i got the enermax 350 witht the adjustable fan speed. It was supposed to be a good power supply but now i notice that my %v was a little low. so i was like okay maybe its supposed to be like that. Well i started getting the same problems i was getting with the other PSU..the cheap 400w that came with my chieftec case. I took two fans out and my 5v is 5v. . Is there anyway i can make this psu perform better. Upgrade the fans anything like that?Seems like if i upgrade the cooling id be drawing more power so what do i do. this thing cost me 60 bucks and i got that so i could overclock.. I don't ahve much running off of it. jsut one HD one CD-rom the mobo and modem.. and a bunch of fans. i was told that a good 400W could take 10 50cfm fans. my "good 350 should atleast take 5 without issue...i dunno...help if you can. make my psu perform..

What are the problems exactly? random restarts or does it not start at all? I also have an enermax 350, I suggest not plugging alot of components on the same lines, spread it evenly out. I have 3 cathodes/2 cd-rom drives/a harddrive/floppy drive/and about 7 fans total (including gpu, and psu) but they are connected to my dd5 and i haven't had any troubles with the enermax, only when too much stuff is connected to the same line.

actually i was just about to edit my post. in the last half an hour i took my entire case apart and started over. i am only running mobo the fan for the processor and the harddrive. been up for about ten minutes and seem to be doing fine... i think you maybe right. i need to look into how to separate all of this and still have a clean display. I have been getting random restarts,so i clocked oem for about ten minutes and the screen went retarded. i think it may have something to do with the way i routed my wires. i have a liteon 40X about 7 fans, 60 gb 7200 maxtor..i can't seem to fins a way to run them right or something.. got any suggestions? perhaps an article on routing wires properly..

Just a thought....

I know some motherboards don't give real exact voltage readings. If you have a high quality digital multi-meter that would be a much better test.

well the reason im assuming its the power supply is that i got the same issue some motnhs back with my first psu...it started acting funky..i wish i had a multimeter. im so stressed right now. i was gonna watercool for christmas. if i can't get this PSU straignted out i gotta get a new one of these. also the way i routed my wires could have contributed to how low of an overclock ive been getting. ive lowered my multiplier and most people who unlocked with the same rig can get a lot better results in the FSB side of the house than i am like ive been able to get 174 stable and there are people air cooled getting 180's easy..so it could be my prob.
also i just rerouted everything this weekend so it could have brought on this onslaught

just a quick update

i just rerouted everything with everything in. wish me luck.
the hardrive, processor fan and the cd-rw are hooked in one line. Two ys techs and a sunon are hooked on one . and two other fans are hooked into eachother also on the last line.. i hope tis works better.must be hard to run a raid configureation. love this chieftec case but it makes it really hard to run wires neatly..can't use zip ties in many places..

hope this works. thanks for the help. oh and i also found the spot for the psu fan on the motherboard so it will recognize it to autoadjust

I looked through my A+ book and here is what it said about the main power acceptable levels,

From Left to Right, Rated DC Volts, Min acceptable, Max acceptable

+5, +4.8, +5.2
-5, -4.5, -5.4
-12, -10.8, -12.9
+12, +11.5, +12.5

Anything outside this range and it would be questionable. I looked for the DDR, AGP, and CPU acceptable voltages but I could not find them. Also you should keep in mind that that many fans draws quite a bit of power. I have 7 fans and the same PS and CPU as you and don't have any problems. It seems that your average fan draws about 3-5 watts. My antec tornado (LOUD) draws 9.1 watts, but it keeps my system temps around 35system/40CPU under 100% load, FSB @ 160, Multiplier @10.00, and 1.85 CPU volt Mod. It sits about 33/35 idle. Is your stuff cool enough?

I looked for and couldnot find a link to a thread on another forum that explains a easy mod to the enermax PSU to increase voltages. Sorry. Its out there and I think you would benifit from it. Try searching here and maybe someone else knows the link I know its out there. Also have you looked at Hoots sticky about low 5v?
