Hi guys,

This is my first post but I have been lurking on this forum for a few weeks reading about the amazing world of improving fps by overclocking and aftermarket cooling :)

I got 2500k and I've read that OC'ing it to 4.5 is not hard and requires a few changes in BIOS and an aftermarket cooler, I will probably use this guide today or tomorrow to OC my cpu.

I've always wanted to do it and finally I decided to do it a few days ago when I ordered my Antec KÜHLER H2O 920. I know that I could probably get a EVO 212 or Noctua or any other high quality cooler but the idea of having more than 1kg of cooper, aluminium and plastic attached to the motherboard above my GTX 460 Ti would make it harder for me to sleep at night :D

I plugged my 920 yesterday and it is working however I have a few questions:

1)On my stock 3.3 2500k on idle with silent mode I have an average of 35-40 temp. When I've run Prime95 for 20 minutes the highest I got was 54. I would like to know if the temps are what they should be for 3.3 on silent mode?

2)When I attached the fans and radiator the tubes are on the top and go down to the pump/cpu. I have seen on most photos that the tubes are on the same level as the pump (bottom) should I turn the radiator around? Will it improve the cooling performance???

3)Should I take off the stock thermal paste and apply some MX-4?

4)On my P8Z68-V/GEN3 I got cpu fan plug and cpu q fan (I don't remember the nam now and I can't check it as I'm in work) connector as well, can I plug both fans from my 920 and set the speed in BIOS or by fan software. I want to avoid using the extreme mode but make it a bit faster than silent mode. Between 1200 to 1600 RPM would be fine, but I can't set the speed using the Antec software, I know I can set the temp after which the fan speeds up but there is little control over it.

Sorry for writing such a long post but I really want to set up my first proper cooler to get the most out of it :)

Kind regards

Hey Penteknot ....

I have the Antec 920 and used it quiet on my 1090T and FX 8120 where it easily gace me an extra 10*C on my CPU Temps. Since I used it on only AMD Systems I can't comment on your temps but cn help you a bit with your other 2 questions.

I have used both the H70 and Antec 920 and found both to have some amount of air left in the loop and found with the H70 that having the tubes at the bottom was a better choice so I never did try anything different when I switched to the 920 and would recomend this to you.

I have always used Artic Silver 5 on my CPU Coolers.

One of the best fetures on the Antec 920 is the built in fan controler. You have 3 options Silent, Extream and Custom. The first 2 are self explanatory the custom is where I would recomend you go. Here you can set your fan speed to ramp the RPM based on your coolent temp. I had mine set to start ramping up the RPM at about 30*C and would reach full rpm around 35*C. (if my memory is correct I have since moved on to a custom loop) by doing this my Syetem was very quiet when surfing the net but when I was doing some video encoding the controller kickd in and ramped my fans up to max as needed.

By ussing the custom settings you can have a silent computer when you are not doing light activities but when you step on it the extra cooling is there at your fingertips and you don't have to change anything in the bios. Play with these settings and I am sure you will find a nice cofort zone for your settings that will address all your cooling needs.

Hope this helps.

Guys would you reccomend me this cooler or the H100?
They seem to cost the same, but the h100 doesn't come with the Corsair link bundle included for the cost...
Sorry for the OT :p
Edit: I have an I7 2600k and would like to get it close to 5ghz 24/7

@ivanlabrie

Both the Antec 920 and the H100(I have both) are good coolers that preform pretty close to each other a little edge goes to the H100.

The biggest problem with the 920 is fitting in some cases. When I was using the 920 in my phantom case I ended up cutting a big piece of the back of the case out to put the rad outside the case. You dont really have to as it fits fine but I found it covered too much of the airflow over my Northbridge and Mosfets. Now with my coolermaster 922 it fit fine inside the case and didn't cause any reall airflow problems. Your case might be the determining factor for using this cooler.

Of the two I liked the controler with the 920 as it worked great but the ease of fit of the H100 is a big plus for it. Both can be pretty loud when the fans are running full tilt.

hope this helps.
