Highpoint 372 and mandrake, a hate-hate relationship?

I have that chip built onto my mobo. tried redhat 8.0, mandrake 9.0 debian 3.0a caldera (don't remember version but it was the newest), Lycoris (newest version) and gentoo 1.4. only gentoo redhat and mandrake recognized the drives on the array. mandrake and gentoo would recognize the array, but would trash something on one of the drives, and kill the array (this would happen either after partitioning or installing grub). I gave up after a few hours and ended up just installing linux with the drives not in raid. If you are able to find a way to install onto a raid array, please let me know. Thanks.

HPT driver

One of my projects for the near future will be to recompile my RH8 install's kernel. At that time I will attempt to add support for the HPT 372 controller, even if the driver was intended for an older version of the distro. I'll let you know if it works out and how difficult it is to recompile the kernel once I get the time to read up on it and give it a try. I've basically got nothing to lose for trying as there's 10 gigs on my array that's unpartitioned and waiting for linux.
