I'm about to kick it's little bootay :D

Ok... Got the bios configured for what seems to be OPTIMAL performance... no problems at stock speed. Ok... next I check to see how far my memory will go. Only sdram... pc133 rated at 133 cas3 and 100 cas2. Amazingly will do 148 cas2 NO PROBLEMS... tested with DocMemory. I can't POST at 149+ so I'm not sure of anything higher... because I don't know whats preventing POST.

Not a problem... chip should do 148 no problem right? WRONG!!! I can get to the winXP "Welcome" splash screen and it freezes. I say "OK I'll try less aggressive settings"... I did JUST that. Put EVERY setting to its more STABLE counterpart. Even the memory. Still does it. Will not load windows... back down the FSB to 145... still no-go. Back down to 144... ok... now we get into winXP but if I put the processor under load it freezes. Back down to 143... running Seti and Toast as I type this. Vcore is maxed out on the mobo at 1.85 and I've set the bios settings ALL back with performance in mind. Full load while running this stuff is 46*C.

Whats your take on this? (Sys specs in sig)

XP

I'd think you could get higher than that... Might be a temp issue. I had problems with a load temp of 44C when I was running my XP on an AK31 with a Volcano 7 hsf. Couldn't get much more than 150 FSB unless I kept my house really cold.

RainMaQer,

I think you need to get your temps below 40C,
My 1.2 with PC100 memory @ 147 refuses to be stable above 40C.

Just a thought...

I'm guessing it's the temperatures. You could also try adding more voltage to the ram, be sure to get airflow over them.

I've upped the voltage to the mem already... made things go that far... but the voltage to the mem only goes from 3.3 to 3.45. I was only at 3.3 when I tested the mem upto 148 and it didn't have any problems. Ran Seti all night and full load never went over 44*C. I really don't know whats causing this. I just hope its not the limit on this core. I think I'm gonna try some volt mods in a couple days and I should also be getting some PC166 in the mail in a couple days as well to replace this pc133. I SHALL FIGURE THIS OUT!!! :D

Perhaps I just need to break down and buy some DDR and get my 8kha+ here sooner.... it'll be here the first week of april ;)

Well, the PC166 memory shall see if its memory. Other than that the Epox power is going to really help overclock it to 150fsb's :D

Whoa, you can up the voltage on SDRAM??
Hey I think I see a problem, Have you put a fan on the northbridge chip?

I believe thats what the setting is... CPU Vio Select: 3.3 or 3.45. Upping it added a little stability... got a 60mm from a Glaciator Lite (had to make a fan housing for it) blowing directly over the mem and chipset heatsink... also put some as2 on there as well (just ordered some as3 to replace the as2 :D) I'm still looking for a good fan I can actually attach to my northbridge... the 60mm is great at cooling the ram but doesn't blow TOO much air on the chipset. Ordered some alumina adhesive as well so maybe I can get a little orb of some sort and put that on there. But then again I may not have this board too much longer so I don't want to do any hardcore modding right yet.

So anyway... vio... thats voltage for the pci and the mem right?

XP 1600+

Of course, you could bypass an FSB limitation if you unlocked your XP.... a mod that you could keep when you switch to another motherboard. -and added overclocking flexibility.

I've been SERIOUSLY contemplating doing just that... but I couldn't find the stuff to do it... would as2 work? I really can't find the stuff... I saw in the TH video that they used "Silver Laquer" but I can't find that... might be able to get "Aluminum Paint" at ace (according to my cousin)... I wonder if Home Depot is open 24 hours?

unlocking

I used window defogger repair paint, available at any auto parts store for about $6... should be lots of auto parts places up there in Michigan.

Gosh darn home depot... closed at 6pm... checked meijer's and walmart but they didn't have anything. And I take it as2 won't work :D I'll just have to wait and find something else... I'm going in town early tomorrow... maybe I can find something at the auto parts store...

i too think it's the temps.

cool rain, tell us how the unlocking goes. good luck! :p
