Ok, i have 4 comps all networked together. Iv looked at all IPs to make sure they are all good. and are. Now here is the problem, we are all running win 2k, and I can acess the interenet witch is on the network (cable modem). Ok the real problem is that i can not access the network or so my comp tells me. I cant veiw any computers on it at all. But my brothers can get view and access my computer though the network. This is strange to me. What could i have wrong? or should check?

Welcome to the Forums.

Have you checked that you are on the same sub mask and the same Workgroup, most likley the second one.

Thanks, and what you mean by Sub mask? do you mean like are we all on the same workgroup name or somthing iv checked every think in the properites of the network stuff and cant find anything out of wack. Aslo i think my brother could fix it but he is too lazy to help me b/c his computer works fine so why should he care about mine. He works with networks all day, and a AS400 (that is one big computer) but anyway, im not that smart when it comes to networking so, thanks for any help

Sub Mask is the normally put in with the ip Address.

Example

255.255.255.0

Is the sub mask for 192.168.0.1

I checked the sub mask and its 255.255.255.0
And i know that they have to shareing files or folders but even if they wernt you can still see the computer i CANT ACCESS the networks at all or even see them on the network. I cant search for thier computer or anything. but yet they can acces my computer. its like my computer is blind or somthing but can find the lightswitch for my cable modem =)

What protocals does your machine have installed?

Make sure you have and file and print serving install and tcp/ip

ok couple things about networking
1 all puters should be on same workgroup / domain
2 protocols : file and printer sharing is a client but should be used also 2 protocols tcpip and ipx/spx if ya got those 2 ya got no probs
3 all puters should be on the same subnet 255.255.255.0
4 lots of prayer hehe

OK all i have for protocals are:
tcpip and firle and print sharing and we all are running widows 2k.
and all are on same workgroup and stuff. and all are 255.255.255.0

So what should i do? my brothers can get into my comp and take files but i cant even access the network. i dont know anymore.

Try uninstalling the NIC in your machine.
Remove the NIC, reboot without the NIC and remove all protocols.

Restart, shutdown and install NIC/Protocals.

And see if that helps

make sure puter # 1 = 141.165.230.1
puter #2 = 230.2
puter #3 = 230.3

etc.

that might make a difference. and since you are running win2k make sure that each user on the puter's have access rights ya dig.

Try swapping net cards. You could have a bad card or a conflict with another piece of hardware. I know you said you can get online, but stranger things have happened. For example. I have a netgear FA311 that will not work with my motherboard, PERIOD. But it worked fine when i had a DHCP server around. I dont understand it, but with DHCP everything was fine, if i tried to assign my own IP it wouldnt work.
