Hello guys,
could you please help me with the home network setup?
What I've got is a internet connection coming into a router, from that router going into a switch, and from switch ethernet going into every room. That is great, but for mobile phones, notebooks, tablets, and some smart home stuff, I need a wifi too. Ideally I would love to have the whole home covered by one network, but I cannot just use the router that internet comes into, because that is in an obscure place, and wifi from there would not reach the living area.
So what exactly should I do? Get 2 access points, set them up with the same network name, and that's it? Provided that some areas will be covered by both, won't it be confusing to the phones (to have 2 signals of the same name)? Any other possible issues? Or what is the proper solution?
Thanks a lot for any advice!

Google nest I think is a good solution. If you don't want to use google I am sure there are some non google options that do the same thing. IIRC some other users have the same type of setup and it was a superior solution to have 2 separate routers setup.

Proper solution is a system that will auto roam the clients from one AP to another as they move around the house. All the big networking manufacturers offer their version of these setups for home use. Havent used one but from what I hear they seem pretty simple to setup and use, they just work.

You could also cobble together something a little more advanced for similar money. I use ubiquiti AP's at home. They need a controller, either hardware or software. I use the software and prefer it over their hardware. Just install to your pc, wire in AP's, quick setup, and done. Theyll auto handoff on their own. Pretty slick.

Do not get ore access points. They will mess up the equation.
Instead get a Home automation tools like Google nest or Amazon's Alexa.

This is how you can setup home network:
A step-by-step guide to setting up a home network
1. Connect your router.
2. Access the router's interface and lock it down.
3. Configure security and IP addressing.
4. Set up sharing and control.
5. Set up user accounts.

What does a smart home speaker have anything to do with roaming/mesh wireless coverage for a house?

Like The_Jizzler I also use Ubiquiti at my house and it works really well. There's things like the Google solution, netgear Arlo (I think) and others. Ubiquiti has their more consumer-ready 'Unifi' setup as well, but that also replaces your router.
