I've done some research and I'm ready for anyone's input.

If I get a TV, I'm in the market for a 100" QLED with full array dimmable LED back lighting. TCL and Hisense both have compelling products under $2k. I like a TV because if I have a VR playing party, no one can block the projection thus casting a large shadow. I also like a TV for better contrast.

For a projector, I want 4k laser but DLP (lamp) projectors are not necessarily out of the question. I like a projector because I can go larger than 100" perhaps to a full 150" based on the size of my wall.

I've been looking at energy usage to see if there was an advantage from one to the other. There really isn't. They both are around 300 watts with some outliers at 150 and another at 500 watts. Regardless, the cost to operate any one versus any other is not enough to move the needle. I'm not intending to use the speakers for either one. I'll use my Denon 5.1 system to start with. It ain't fancy but it will be way better than anything else I got.

I'm also starting to dial in on color reproduction. I hadn't thought about that since I am partially color blind but my wife isn't. So color reproduction, and I just learned about color speed? I haven't looked into that yet but I know I can get a unit for about $2k with good color speed and reproduction.

If you have experience with projectors vs TVs, please chime in about what you like and don't like. What you're happy to have done and wish you had done differently.

Holiday sales are in full swing and with tariffs on the horizon, the time to purchase is now.

Happened across a review channel that was showing burn-in for QLED and WLED. They showed examples from their testing and then downplayed the results too. However, Burn-in is still a thing and now I have to see if projectors have burn-in.

Note: They stated that they intentionally induced burn-in to some degree to see how much of a problem it is. They then stated that under normal conditions, burn-in is much less than they showed for most users. Most users.

The exception is people who hook up the TV to a computer or a game system that they play regularly. These types of media tend to have static images in certain parts of the screen and hence the burn-in.

Since I will be doing a combo of gaming and movie watching, I need to keep an eye on this issue even if it is on the smaller end.

Unless you're only playing one game for hours on end or watching one channel (talking heads with a scrolling bar on the top or bottom) you likely will never have an issue. I've had my 48'' OLED for a monitor for 3 years with no issues and an OLED in our family room for playing games, watching TV and movies since 2018 and no problems there either.

Worst case scenario get the 5 year geek squad warranty which covers burn in (most extended warranties do not, but best buy's one does)

You can have the task bar auto hide... which takes care of that... make sure your wallpaper images rotate too? Otherwise, yeah, I wouldn't worry about it too much outside of the taskbar (typically the most permanent thing on a desktop).
