I'm starting up a website so I'm hacking the HOSTS files so that my computer will be able to see the websites internally.

(i.e. instead of http://(my addy) going to my external IP i want my computers to go to the internal IP, this requres me to change my HOSTS file.

I did this fine in XP (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\) but I need to change my laptop which is running ME, but It didn't seem to work.

Anyone know how to do this?

(make http://(my addy) go to 192.168.7.203)

You got any ideas seal? I need this one so I can check my website :(

i find format c: solves most microsoft related problems.

Hey CJ,

According to this website the host file is in a different location in ME than XP/2K. Check it out and see if that helps. You might need a quick logoff/logon or a restart to load the new hosts file as well.

Have you tried http://192.168.7.203 on your ME box?

Yep, works fine.

Why bother with a host file?

All the links within my website will work.

Awesome thanks. Cleared my cache and it works now :)

There is a file in the WinME directory called HOSTS.SAM. I edited it and it didn't work, even with no cache. So i went into the command prompt and got rid of the extension:

rename HOSTS.SAM HOSTS

That seemed to do the trick.

.SAM files are regularly "sample" files. Not seen much in the windows world though.
