Does any one know how to make a power supply work with out plugging it in to the mother board

Take a pice of wire and stick one end into the pin 14 spot (green) and the other end in a ground (black). :)

And welcome to the forums!!! :D

i have to many fans and wanted to take them off the main power supply

i have the same rig , i run a second psu with 8 80mm fans to cool the entire case, i rigged up the setup shown in the picture above but i added a toggle switch and ran it through the front of a 5 1/2 bay so i can just toggle the second psu on when i power on the computer to get everything going at once. There is a way to wire up the 2nd psu to power on with the 1st one but i didnt want to cut wires on my atx cord for the main psu which is the way it would have to be done
 
If you want to invest in an ATX extension cable, you can do it like this . I set mine up this way, works like a charm, and you don't have to cut any PSU wires.
