How bad are the AMD GPU drivers?

Haven't had any problems with Skyrim or Deus Ex with my unlocked 6950 (sample size = 1 and all that). Haven't had enough time to get anything else in, partially since Skyrim's such a massive time-sink. I'd like to play the witcher II, but haven't gotten to it yet. It's a pretty fast card, though for your requirements you'd want to look at the nvidia side for CUDA (560ti or 570).

Well actually I want one of the newer cards, particularly in the high-end because currently I have the money for it and also I want the system to hopefully last me about 4 years or more without upgrades ( I don't mind playing on low settings 4 years from now.)
