I am using mint. When i go to the system monitor i only see one cpu usage graph... I down loaded ultimateboot cd and tried runing Mprime from there and it says:
Code:
You have 1 CPU in your system
==>AuthenticAMD AMD Hammer Family processor - Model Unknown

and then after i start mprime it says

Code:
1 CPU detected Running 1 instance of mprime....

cpu info yields
Code:

Do i need to flash the bios or am i missing something.

uname -a yielded...
Code:
Linux roguevendetta-desktop 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

You are running an SMP kernel, so I'm intrigued as to why it shows only one core. Running cat /proc/cpuinfo ought to show two cores.

Is there a BIOS setting to disable a core?

There is no setting that i can find... but i did find this

http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/t212061.html

AMD E6 rev cpu's are supported from BIOS 1.9 though 1.C (1C isn't released as of yet, but can be obtained from MSI tech support.) don't know if that encompasses the dual-cores, or just the E6 Venices. You can use this form to ask tech support:

Currently the bios is at v 1.3... I have been trying to flash with FreeDos but i can't get the ISO to work...

Your board should have EZ-Flash support.

Delete the BIOS you downloaded and re-download it (just in case its corrupted). Format a USB stick with FAT32 (you may have to install dosfstools or whatever package includes mkfs.vfat), and copy the freshly downloaded BIOS on it. Plug the stick in, reboot, and get into the BIOS. The last menu tab should have an "EZ-Flash" option, which will ask you to select the file to flash from the plugged-in USB drive.

Thanks guys! I tried freedos and a couple other methods which didn't work and then I found this...Link. No i don't read German, however, I was always a fan of picture books... anyways mint is now recognizing both cores.

Thanks again!

I take that back (not the thanks, the everything worked well)... booted into mint just fine... started to run mprime... got black screen, the computer appeared to be hard locked so i restarted and what do you know... no post. crap

You DO NOT need a bootable USB stick. All you need is to have the BIOS .bin file on the stick, and you can update it from inside the BIOS. A bootable disk or CD or USB is completely unnecessary.

I bios didn't come with a bin file... the zip file from MSI came with...

7025.txt
AWFL833D.exe
How to flash the bios.doc
W725NMS.1C0

I think the opty has seen better days. I put in a 3500+ and the machine booted just fine and is running mprime.

Then you would use the .1C0 file. Whichever file actually has the BIOS code is the only one you need.
