Im working on a Research Paper that is my final grade for 12th grade english and I need to hear some responses first hand to the Question's Im going to ask to fully back my thesis.I probably will use this post in my research. It would help If I could get 10 or so good opinions and thoughts to back my

1.)How have Technological advancements in Computer Graphics benefitted your everyday useage of computers ?

2.)If it wasnt for Graphics hardware advancements, would the internet and be enjoyable as it was when it first gained popularity ?

3.)What is your opinion on why graphics technology is increasing so rapidly ?

Here is my thesis topic BTW.

"Technology advancements in computer graphics and how they benefit computer users on all levels"

If it weren't for the "user freindly" graphical inteface computers would still be a thing of work and toil. Not like the machines of leisure we enjoy today at all.

Text internet wouldn't be nearly as dynamic as the pictures, flashing banners, sound and film clips that we enjoy.

In other words it would be boring and there would have never been the boom in personal computers the accompanied the original windows.

1. Anything that pleases my eye is much better to look at than something that doesn't. Smooth animations, vibrant colors, realistic effects, shading, all these things make computing easier. Noone wants to stare at jerky, bland, blocky graphics for hours on end. I think the more the computer can emulate real life the more user friendly it will be. Now the question is what happens when the technology surpasses real life?

2. No.

3. I seriously believe that computer gaming is the main reason for the constant advancement of graphics technology. People will always pay for the latest greatest video card to get those extra frames per second. That's where the money comes from for the development of the next best thing. I wish I could say it was for something more beneficial to mankind but its not.

P.S. These are only my opinions and best guesses.

As far as it is necessary for webbrowsing and current GUIs graphical hardware has been much the same since 1994. By then all such things as hardware pointers, window scaling, bit blitting etc where already integrated into graphics chipsets. There have been very very few significant advances in 2D display hardware since then. Cards back then could do high resolutions. This has just become more common since chips, memory and display hardware have got cheaper.

So, I pick your 2) as being a virtual non-issue, since all the common internet usage apart from for gaming relies on features that predate the www, and the first graphical interface. IF you don't beleive me find a circa 1994 ATI Mach64 Graphics card with 4Mb RAM on it , put it in a modern machine and see if you can actually tell a difference between webrowsing on that and any modern ATI card.

3D hardware is a different story. You can only really talk about games though, you could talk about CAD but then do you do that everyday?

All that comes to mind is AOL...i think it's a perfect example of friendly interface

Just imagine an AOL user trying to check their email through grety, boxy menus...

the following questions were answered by me (uber geek computer science student) and my girlfriend(currently a computer graphic artist for a childrens storybook and 3d animation hobbyist). The first was answered by my girlfriend, the second by both of us, and the third mostly by me. If you need names to reference in your paper, just let me know.

1. It has dramatically increased my everyday usage of the computer because the ability to do graphic design on a computer has enabled me to do my work much faster and do much less of the work manually. The fact that the graphic design industry has moved away from manual design has resulted in the near extinction of the manual graphic designer.

2. The whole point of the internet is the ability to gather and participate in the passing of information, BUT part of the internet experience is the visual appeal of the Flash animations and 3d images you encounter. I feel that, without this added visual appeal in todays web, there would be far less users online and the overall internet expericnce would begin to diminish over time if it didn't keep making itself look better.

3. Money. Compuger graphics, much like all other components, are all growing at a similar rate because they generally have a few competing companies always trying to have the current best technology on the market. In conjunction with the fact that computer technology generally grows at an exponential rate, there is no real reason that computer graphics technology should not be growing rapidly.

1. I make commercials, all on the computer, so computer graphics play a huge role in how I make my money.

2. No, the internet wouldn't be as enjoyable, especially because that would mean that I couldn't get porn as easily (j/k ;)); I play games online and learn things through pictures people post, etc etc.

3. What Krusty said.

sorry I don't talk as much as the other guys :p
