I want to flash the bios on my Iwill board, but after reading the Iwill website directions I am confussed. Normally I make a bootable floppy and put Award flash Utility and the .bin file on it and then run the flash and file. But the website says to do it another way, here is the confussing part of the directions:

"Step 2: Power on the system and enter the pure DOS Mode.

Warning: If you try to update BIOS under Windows DOS box Mode, it will cause unexcpet damage for your system.

Step 3: Build a new temporary subdirectory, then copy the file to thisSubdirectory. For example: copy the "AWDFLASH.EXE" and "DGL200.EXE" to the directory."

Duhh whaat?

p.s. Why can't I just do a normal flash?

Thanks, krag:(

You can just do a normal flash but it is always best to use a pure dos boot disk rather than a windows boot disk.

The step 3 is just telling you that when you run the bios .exe file you download to put it in a folder (sub directory) so when it extracts the bios.bin and awardflash.exe files you can find them.

If you want to make a pure dos boot disk you can get dr-dos 7.03
that will make one for you here.

I agree with Placid completely. I use the DRDOS "pure" boot floppy for all my bios flashing. Right now I have several of the XP333r bios on what I call flash floppies. Each flash floppy contains the .bin file I want to flash, my favorite version of Awdflash.exe, and a little .bat file named Runme that contains the Awdflash command line with all the switches so I don't have to mess around at flash time. Once I get the A:/ prompt from my boot floppy, I just insert the flash floppy, type Runme and enter; that's all it takes to get the job done. Here is the content of my Runme.bat file:

AWDFLASH XPR0118.BIN /SN /PY /CP /CD /CC /R.

The only thing I need to do when I have a new bios to flash is to copy this to the floppy with the other two files and then edit the bios file name to match the one I'm going to flash and save the changes.

It also helps to remember to set the bios to Flashable in the Smart Settings section of bios setup.:D :D
