If I buy an NF7-S from newegg, how do I know what version the board is? I read v1 might not have the four mounting holes for large heatsinks, but v2 does, and I need the holes for my Alpha 8045.

your best bet is to get it from excaliberpc.com they have garunteed r2.0 boards instead of newegg where you could get either a r1.? or a 2.0

eh newegg has been send out rev2 for a month and a half now.
i dont think its even possable to get a rev1.2 from them unless it was a refurb.and they dont send those out as a new board like some places do.

I would like to add that GameVe.com will do the same and it sells for just $113 + $6.75 shipping. It's really a good deal on the price and that is where I got mine a couple weeks ago.

I got my NF7-s 2.0 almost a month ago from newegg. I agree with deathstar that it is unlikely that you would get anything else from them other than that version even though it doesn't 'guarantee' it.

I made SURE I got my Nforce2 board from them in case I had to RMA it. For a return, I don't want to deal with any other company - just my opinion.

I have dealt with newegg and gameve in the recent past and I can say that gameve is a very good company to deal with, they ship what they say they're shipping. Newegg is also good but they will not guarantee revisions or steppings or anything for that matter, they will take it back if you don't want it, as long as you pay the shipping and it's in their time period. I would recommend gameve if they are offering the best price right now. I have only had to return one item to newegg and they took care of me, I haven't had to return anything to gameve. I have two rev. 1.2s and I'm glad as I have heard of so many problems with the 2.0s, at least mine both work!
