Hi,

How do I remove my Northbridge cooler on an Epox 8RDA+
As I can't seem to unscrew it?

It should have push pins which need to be removed from the bottom of the MoBo. Very carefully squeeze in the prongs on the underside of the board and the pins should come out, careful not to lose any as they have springs and can sometimes go flying when released. Its also a good idea to heat up the NB with a hair dryer to help soften the thermal tape that helps hold it on. Good Luck.

Regards, Balrog

Sometimes they need a little coaxing, but as Balrog said, a little heat helps to separate the HS and chip. Good luck to you.

Right, could you recomend a NB cooler, also should I cool the SB using the original NB cooler?

I personally don't have any advice off the top of my head for specific coolers. I do know that newegg.com, svc.com, etc. have some nice selections. It can't hurt to cool the southbridge. I plan on doing mine. My previous Epox 8rda+ Rev 2 had a Heatsink on the south bridge. The Southbridge tends to get pretty warm on the nForce 2 boards leading to sound distortion, skipping, etc. Good luck.

If you lap the stock NB it works fine, I remounted mine using long bolts and nylon washers inserted from the bottom. This allows the NB to be snugged down and a 50mm fan to be mounted on the same pair of bolts. Otherwise get a Vantec Copper Iceberq cooler, this set includes extra sinks for the SB and some that can be cut and used to cool your Mosfets. Good Luck!

Thanks balrog and pcguy, i think I shall get a new hs for the nb and put the stock nb cooler on the sb.

oh, and from experience, i feel the need to warn you to pull the sucker off w/ a hand towel, as the NB HS gets HOT near a blowdryer.... stung like a mother! 0_o

What I did with my nb was to lap it, then re-install the stock heatsink with AS3. Then I attached a stock amd cpu fan to the heatsink. It works very well and is pleasing to the eye as well as quiet.
