I want to make a 4 pin connector so I dont have to use mb power.I know you can buy one , but I could also wire one with spare parts I have .A wire diagram would be nice. Any one done this .I'm sure several have.

Hi arden,
you can take a look here, but the Rpm signal work only if the fan is @12v, or more deeply, want a ground of -12v, absolutly not in the other way ;)

Doors is right you will need to have it connected to -12v power and have the RPM wire connected to the motherboard. Personaly I don't see why you would want to not use motherboard power

Personally I've tried only with 7v, and doesn't work at all the Rpm signal, but I suppose which is the same with other voltages or a rheostat ;)

The reason is I dont want to burn out the fan header on my abit kt7a mb. I'm using a sk6 with delta fan and have heard it could burn out the header.

And infact this is the way to go, coz Delta's fans, like clone, are really stronger, and wants 'higher' wattage to work, wattage which the Mobo can't provide! ;)
