I hear about lapping a block and getting a mirror look, but all I found on the forums is the number levels like sandpaper.
For lapping a block what do I need?

ok ill tell ya how

what you need: flat surface, one sheet of 600 grit wet or dry
sand paper, a mug, tape, water, and liquid soap.

1. take cup and fill up with water
2. add a couple of drop of liquid soap
3. mix
4. take sandpaper and tape it to flat surface
5. wet it with the water and soap
6. take heatsink and start moving in large circles with pressure
7. after maybe 10 minutes use smaller ciricles and less pressure
8. after another 10 use very small circles and almost no pressure

notes: always flush the sandpaper with the water when you
see coper partciles start to appear

hope this helps, the hoot technique is the best

hmmm It took me an hour using 220 grit JUST to get my maze2 FLAT!! It's been over a week since I did it now, and my arm is still sore. :p (It took 3 hours to finish)

And if you're looking for an even better cooling, you can read this article (also rabidhardware.net) where they tell you what thermal grease to use, and how to use it....

I laughed so I cried when reading those articles mate...
