How do you tell when you've reached the limits of your ram?

Well, what do you use to tell you've pushed your ram as far as it can go?

While booting into or in windows you can a blue screen that says "Memory dump" or if you can't boot at all. =p

I just play games and see if artifacts appear.

No no, you will see artifacts or if it's a really big you'll get a lockup.
