I have a PII 866@1040 is this ok for my pci bus?

Works rock stable

ATI RADEON
3com NIC
3Com MODEM
SB LIVE
RAID

Running the pci bus out of spec can shorten the life of the pci devices.
40mhz is not that bad, I would say you might want to check how hot your your hard drives are running and maybe add a hd cooler if they are in a poor air circulation area of your case.

Yep, take it as high as you can and remaining stable. 40 isn't bad, but it is on the fine line of instability in general. Most cards start to tank around 40. The first to go is usually the NIC. Most newer cards can handle the extra oomph though.

I have yet to be able to run my PCI bus rock stable at 40 MHz or above, but 39 is ok with my system. You are probably borderline at 40 unless you have the right combination of cards. Sheesh, when are they going to make a 1/5 PCI bus divider?
