How large is your registry?

I just used the trial version to System Mechanic 6 it now shows you meters which tell how safe it reckons your PC is and the overall speed of it. My system was pretty slow (Rated Fair by SM6) but since doing a clean out of junk files, registry, and other stuff it's moved higher now it's seems better.

I even saved 0.4mb on the registry size from 49.7mb to 49.4mb like WOOOOW NOT!!!

42.8 on about a 4 month old install of Windows 2k. I used to try thoughs apps and they never seemed to hurt but I never noticed an increase in speed so why mess with it.

i use a registry cleaner every OIAW (Once In A While) and i have never had problems.

Not everybody will have problems, but considering there is no benefit and you risk messing your system up, why even bother with registry cleaners?

You're honestly basing your system performance by a bar displayed in the program that advertises itself to improve performance? Of course it is going to say the performance of your PC is at its peak, even if it's not. There are some things System Mechanic does that are helpful, but there are other and better ways to do such things. Anything that includes a "memory optimizer" should not even be used IMO.

34.0 with XP SP1, but I like keeping a lean system for teh games (installation is about 2 months old).

I have a 6-month old installation of XP SP1 that's 50.0 megs.

58.6 MB (61,540,226 bytes) XP Pro SP2 and a ton of other random programs/utilities installed.

I dont have any problems and I dont use registry cleaners anymore. last time I used one it managed to completely Butcher my Windows/Office isntallation and had to re-install. Thankfully it wasnt on a "production" machine...

66.6MB -- Been installed for about a year now.

@BrutalDrew - I clean my registry because I hate having crud lying around. It may not increase performance, but unless your registry cleaner is stupid (which means that it has to earn my trust) you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I view it kinda like CCleaner -- removing 200MB of random temp files won't increase performance or greatly help with diskspace, and it does have the potential of deleting important stuff, but why leave the crud lying around?

BTW: The registry hives themselves are located at C:\Windows\System32\Config\ and are SAM, Security, Software, System, and Default (in case you're wondering how big your registry really is)

I never use that memory optimizer it's a crock I can tell you that.

In reference to my huge registry size, that was from a .reg file. I don't even want to know what a TXT export would be like! Rest assured, I will most likely try it someday. :)

My work computer is Win XP SP2, a rather recent install. It's registry is 48.1 Mb.

what I listed was the export. the files themselves are
28.2 MB (29,622,272 bytes) together. (not counting the chang elogs of course)

Hmmm... I wonder if that is the correct way to read registry size...

.reg = 117 Mb
.txt = 225 Mb (this I find amusing)
the 5 files mentioned in the post above = 45.5 Mb

In other words, going "directly to the source" yields files that are much smaller in size. I wonder why this is...

27.0MB Jigpu method
63.3MB .reg export

XP SP2
I would recommend regsupreme as a registry cleaner.
