well right now i have a golden orb and i heard that these things are now great coolers, i have a p3 750 cbo on a bx motherboard and right now the temp ranges from 29 at idle to around 34 at full load, now how loud will this alpha be, because i have padding along my case to disrupt any noise, will that be enough, help please

I didn't like my Delta and I returned it. Some of the members of this board don't find it all that annoying. I hated the noise.

As your GORB is working well, there's no immediate need to invest in a PEP-66. However, if your GORB is hanging on a Slocket, I'd buy the PEP-66, which is designed to hang on a Slocket, instead. Now that HSF's can cost ~$75, the Alpha PEP-66 is no longer the costliest cooler.

If you do go with a PEP-66, the etailer usually offers a choice of fans. I recommend a 26 cfm YSTech--because the GORB is doing the job very well for you now. If the coming summer is a scorcher, or you decide to OC your CPU, the Delta 38 cfm may be a better choice. I must warn you, the 38 cfm Delta from hell-a is the loudest and most annoying thing I've ever heard in a PC case.

The only way you'll find out if you can live with the Delta 38 is to install it. Don't be surprised if it drives you around the bend!

My 5 PEP66s with Delta 38's resent the claims that they are loud...

Did somebody say something? You'll have to speak up!

well now that i checked it out, my temp is now at 33 at idle and around 45 at full load now i want to overclock this baby to 1 gig, and currently i have it at 840. Now i found out by some of these posts that the grob is crap for overclocking, so if i wanted a gig will i need better cooling?

Viper, yes you need better cooling. You are running about max temp right now, in my opinion. It's not that the Gorb is crap, it's that it won't cool good enough for pushing above the 1 gig mark. A year ago when we were overclocking the Celerons to 800-900 MHz, it was a great cooler. Them days are over and you need someting much better. Also, there is no doubt, the Delta fan is loud and whines like an ex-wife. Lapping the Gorb and using Arctic Silver thermal paste helped me bring temps down several degrees. That might hold you over until you can invest in a better cooler.

thanks man for the advice, i tried it at 1 gig but it would give me a whole slack load of errors when it booted up to windows, u just solved my probemlo. Ill look for a better fan, what type of fan do u recomend, i heard that the pep66t is the best, i want any fan that can make my p3 750 go over 1 gig its my destiny hehe

The Alpha PEP66 is a great cooler for using with a slotket adapter. You'll need a good thermal paste too. But, there is no guarantee that chip will hit 1 gig, even with the best cooling. Lots of people are having trouble getting those 750 chips to run at 133 bus speed. But with better cooling, you have a much better chance of dancing the 1 gig jig.

i too have a pep66 with a delta runnin, and the niose is worth it if you see a better overclock with it, but i didn't. my duron 700 refuses to go pass 978 stable with or with out the delta, so i took the delta out because i didn't get any gain on speed. although my temps did drop a wopping 3-5 deg celcius. but the noise is bretty much if u runnin a open case too. just buy bigger speakers for ur comp so u can hear your music over the noise!

The thing is that i could boot it up at one gig, but it crashes when it loads windows so with better cooling it would be stable, right?
