I have had my old computer, which i leave running in the basement, crunching for seti for a little while now. I finnaly got around to putting it up on the rig in my sig. I average about 3 hr per work unit. Is this normal? Here is a shot.

Is there a way to crunch faster or am i running at "normal" speeds. Sorry for being such a n00b! but gotta start somewhere...

You could do a lot better with the command line client. The screen saver is horrible in comparison. Other than that sounds like your system is running about right. You can get the CLC from the zip file pack on the team site www.ocsetiteam.com. Let us know if you need any help setting it up.

checking it out now. I should hopefully start running the command prompt tonight, does it give a noticable boost?

Ok i have it all setup! much easier then i thought!! I do have a few questions,
1. Should i change my cache size higher then 1?
2. should I have more then 1 max processes?
3. Would raising SETI priority make it faster?
Thanks for all the help, I think I have become infected with your "diease" errr addiction.

yeah, your times are fine. you should only run 1 process, increasing priority may help, but probably not much, and the cache size is up to you. do you have setiqueue? if you have more than one machine running, you should look into it.

Priority

Leave your Priority setting on low, setting it higher will not make your SETI Times faster but it might cause problems if and when you are trying to do anything else with your machine. Even at "low" priority SETI is getting all the unused cycles available on your machine.

Set your cache to hold 3-4 days worth of work units, then if Berkely goes down you can keep crunching.

Only run 2 instances if you have a HT chip. Otherwise you are sure to lock up your machine.

The Priority can be left on low if it's a machine you use. I set my dedicated crunchers to high because they do nothing but seti.

Thanks for all the help guys, im thinking of putting together some older comps for crunching. Your help was great im now running the command line on both machines. again thanks a lot!
