Ok, with my incredible chipped 1600+, which prior to being chipped ran quite cool, now runs very hot. The impossible thing is that i have a huge loud 140+cfm 120mm fan, and my radiator is the hottest part of my computer!!! My wb gets slightly warm, and my water itself is quite warm. Its as though the heat just isnt leaving!! Its a cube radiator, perhaps i need a shroud? Also, where did all this heat come from? I always thought when you chipped your core there was less surface area therefore higher temps, but for everything else to get hot? It must be making far more heat than ever.

Well, i used to get 38c load, now its 61c load, and everything ran cold, now everything is warm, before the radiator hot, after, just warm. No change, just chipped core.

Ouch, that hurts.
If the water is getting pretty warm, then it's not the waterblock mounting that's causing it, it has to be the chip.
Either by loss of surface area, or some elecrical problem in the missing section. It could even be shorting direct to the waterblock's underside causing a large surge in heat.

Just for giggles, what thermal goop do you use? Have any of the generic white stuff that's guaranteed not to conduct?

Since the chip may be no good anyway, if you have the older Arctic Silver or a cheapo knock-off, it may conduct and make your problem worse. It's worth a try I'd guess.

Just be carefull not to cause anymore damage while making any changes.
