I have a problem with resolutions in redhat 9.1 and mandrake 9.1 whichever one I install, and I was going to replace my GFX drivers. BUT, u have to download the correct version for your version on Xfree86 and I have no idea what mine is. I tried opening Xfree86 config in vim but I cant see the version number anywhere. Does anyone know what it would be or how to find out?

It's most likely 4.3 for RH9 and newer releases, 4.2 for anything older. I needed 4.3 for the intel 865G integrated chipset in my laptop.

$ XFree86 -version

XFree86 Version 4.2.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.2.0-72) / X Window System

Thanks fellas :) I actually have to admit I may well have wasted your time. I got sick of reinstallng mandrake over and over hoping it will get the resolution right (it did once, even though I used all teh exact same setup every time :mad:), and ive installed overclockix (knoppix) to my HDD because it seems to get teh screen size right straight away. That said any tips are useful to a noob like me, its all info in the long run :)
