I've got a A7N8X Deluxe and I just got a Nvidia FX5600.
In the NVDIA control panel in the display settings, it shows the Card AGP rate as 8x, the bios AGP as 8x, and operating system at 2x!!! Why is this 2x? I've installed all the latest drivers from nvidia, what else do I need to do??

set bios to 8x
chipset drivers for mobo if it goes 8x. No chipset drivers no 8X

don't forget to set coolbits in the registry

Bios is set to 8x...installed latest nVidia chipset drivers...is there anywhere to set a setting in windows?

Make sure the "enable 8x Support "option in the Advance Chipset Feature section in the BIOS is enabled...if this option is not enabled it will not run at 8X...

I know you said you had it enabled in the BIOS...but just making sure you had that exact option set in your BIOS...this SHOULD set your card to 8X AGP...if not, then you might want to try the card in another system and see if it will run at 8X on the other system (make sure the other MB supports 8X). If it will not run at 8X on another 8X supported system then you should return or RMA it.

your OS still needs to know how to manage the chipset of the motherboard, check your cd that came with the mobo for chipset drivers

My driver shows my FX5600 as running 2x in the Os as well.

I downloaded Powerstrip and ran it and it shows my AGP running as 8x.

Could be a bug with the driver not being totally compatible with the FX line of cards so it wont read the specs correctly.

i have a motherboard that supports 8x and a card that does too, i also set it up in my BIOS for 8x..but i don't see a choice on my card like
turbocoupe has... i assume it is running 8x but i guess i don't know

any suggestions?

your last collum which say OPTIMAL is all you ahve to worry about and they all at max setting, so you are at 8X AGP ...
