Well i was stupid and put the thermal sensor from my volcano 11+ xaser edition hs and fan. I was told to take it off and i did and i am left with some thermal tape on the bottom of my cpu. I just left it there and now one of my friends is saying that it is probably messing up my temps. I am at 46c idle right now. My temps keep jumping around, i was at 43c idle yesterday, 35c idle this morning, and now im at 46c idle. This is driving me crazy and I am about to get crappier ram and get a sp-97. Will having that thermal tape on the bottom of my cpu affect my temps? If so, how do i go about removing it...

EDIT: my cpu isnt even at its default mhz, its only at 1600mhz right now with 133 x 12 because i am using crappy generic pc2100 128mb ram till next week, i am also only using 1.45 vcore...

Ok, You can try vegtible oil. I know it sounds crazy. I dip the *very* tip of my finger in the oil and rub it on the thermal tape. The oil desolves the tape. Then I wipe it down with a paper towel. Then, to remove the oil, I use 91% rubbing alcohol and finally apply Artic silver paste.

Anyone else? Would it be possible to use just alcohol? Could i try to scrape it off with my fingernail?

Just me again. You can scrape it off but you do NOT want to scratch the surface. A credit card works well (or ID card). You can use alcohol it just doesn't do a very good job. The alcohol does not disolve the thermal tape like oil does. It won't hurt to try it any way you want. Good luck.

There is a special kind of soap that I forgot its name but its ment to take goup and guck off on objects. Such as the remains of a sticker after peeling and it will help you take ity right off. But i forgot the name

Now that's what I didn't think of. There is engine degreasers like 'Gunk'. Hand cleaners like "Goop". Both of these clean off oil and grease. They are basically petrolium products. You can then use alcohol to clean off the residue that they leave behind.

I would go with this method also, Lava is a good soap for the hands but contains pumice rock and could scratch the surface.
