I read somewhere that you can do this by switching up the wires and it will run at 7v instead of12v. I would like to run my sunon 120mm that is 90cfm like this. Also are there any side effects like will the fan just quit one day? Is there excess heat produced like a rhostat? Is it dependable?

i run most of my fans at 7v, never had any problems, of course you will be running the fan outside of its stock specs so there is always risk, but being that fans are like $10... anyway, if you want to give it a try, just run the fan's positive to a +12v, (yellow wire), and the negative to the +5v (red wire) potential difference between +12 and +5 is +7, so you get +7v to your fan.
