Incredibly, Firefox sync master machine *cannot* be set (!)
Therefore your main computer will continuously be overwritten with data from your mobile devices as Firefox sync functions as two-way only.

SOLUTION: Firefox > Tools > Options > Sync > Manage Account > Delete account

Sign up for a new account immediately (you can use the same exact email and password).

Setup what gets synced: Firefox > Tools > Options > Sync >
Tools > Sync Now

Now log in with the same info on your mobile devices and sync them.
After syncing completes, immediately Disconnect your mobile devices [scroll down under where syncing settings are].

For Android devices:
Android Settings > Accounts > Settings > See Auto-sync data needs to be CHECKED for syncing to go through.

I understand that it is useful to have ALL devices be able to add/delete what they want and for all changes to be synced.
But for there not to be an *option* - just an option - to have a master machine from which other devices are synced...? Really Mozilla?

Luckily the above is a true workaround.

Who even uses Firefox anymore? I'd say this is a prime example as to why the answer to that question is not very many people. Believe me I used to love it. Over the years I constantly switched between FF and Chrome as every once in a while one would become better than the other. But Mozilla seems to have their heads up their rears or something because it suddenly became, and STAYED, ungodly slow. Nice options for plugins, extensions, and UI customization though.

I agree that Firefox requires a lot of modifications and therefore is difficult to use.
But there are no add-ons for any other browser like there are for Firefox, which once modified, is still the best because of those add-ons, not because of Firefox itself.

Do you have any examples, c6, for things that there aren't equivalents of on Chrome? I'm sure there's some, but I can't imagine many that hadn't been ported/replicated.

It was easier for me to copy-paste all, but I could have taken the time to go through the list and just mentioned the ones that are not.
Like I said there were many.
The list also has the ones that are available a few of which you found.

Without going into "well what you need that for", just as an example, I've built my Favorites folder since Windows 9x.
When Firefox came out, it used Bookmarks (like Chrome) - however - there was an add-on that lists the physical contents of the Windows Favorites folder right inside Firefox.
So for testing purposes I could still fire up Internet Explorer or Firefox and the Favorites menu would display the same physical location of Windows\Favorites so I never actually switched to Bookmarks but continued to use a custom physical Favorites folder which is displayed simultaneously inside Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Nothing of the sort exists under Chrome.

I could go on, but then we would have to get bogged down is how many of the missing add-ons are enough? For me that number is 1.
If even one add-on from the list is missing, then that's too many. But there is more than one. My list is relatively short. Other people's lists are much bigger.

I also seriously doubt that Chrome would allow the extent of physical modifications that are allowed on Firefox, but I never even thought of that because the functional (as opposed to cosmetic) add-ons weren't there for Chrome and are still not from what I can tell...

I routinely right click on Windows > New > Shortcut and create physical .url shortcuts.
These are stored in Favorites folder as individual files.
There is even an Android add-on to open them:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zapek.android.stuntzurl

So for me this is one of the most important Add-ons for Firefox:
