If I were to contemplate getting a cheaper SLDRV4 or 5 over a 8K3A, SYK7 Dragon+ or a KR7A, would there be and obvious price to performance difference between these mobos, considering that I'm an absolute newbie to OCing and I have no intentions of doing it for a few months after I get the system?

I would recommend the Epox or Gigabyte boards if you are considering the KT333 chipset. The Soltek is OK the DRV4 is a better choice than the DRV5 it just does not offer enough, check the reviews here

The soltek sl-75 drv4 has the via kt266a chipset so it doesnt support the new 333mhz ddr ram and i havent seen the benchmarks for the drv5 yet. One thing i want to add is that if your gonna shell out some cash for a new board do a little research. tom's harware did a test of 12 motherboards (a little dated now) but u can see how the old sl-75drv2 measured up against some of the more well known board manufacturers.

and by the way i've been quite happy with my drv4

I have done my research and as far as I am concerned toms a reviews are not the gospel, plus imo he is a pinhead

I suggested the DRV4 because I think from what I have read it is better than the DRV5 for overclocking and yes I know it is 266A chipset based

I said if you are gonna go KT333 I would recommend Epox, Asus and Gigabyte next Soltek and last MSI for overclocking purposes.

The Soltek boards in my opinion are excellent. This is the first PC I built and I am glad I chose the Soltek. Not only is it one of the more stable boards out there, it has great OC'ing capabilities... and for the price it can't be beat. You can expect bigger and better things from Soltek.

the price diffence between the drv4 and 5 is less than $20, i went for the drv5 because it hass the potential for much fast ram speeds. even if you arent planning to use pc2700 at the moment, if you are serious about overclocking you will probably change your mind in the future. :burn:

I use the drv4 on a 3rd computer and it consistently beats my 8kha+ in seti returns. It overclocks higher using the fsb only with standard voltage. I will be getting another soon unless I'm convinced of somethig better.
