I bought a new HP Envy laptop - it was on sale.

Turning it on I am faced with a MS screen for "Let's add your Microsoft account" I don't want to enter in my MS info as I may return the computer if I don't like it. I tried following some older 2022 instructions on youtube but that didn't work. Their methods I THINK are outdated. I could be wrong, but they didn't work. It's a Win 11.

When I first turned on the computer I did the following:
Turned it on, selected country, the keyboard layout, signing into my wifi network, and now it is asking me to log into a Microsoft account..and this is where I am stuck.

When I turn off the laptop, and turn it back on, the first screen that pops up is the "Is this the right country or region"... I'll wait until I hear from you guys.

How do I do this?

Thanks in advance

If it's Win11 Pro then pick an option to add it to a domain ... even though you don't use one, you only have to use your user name (anything you want), and it doesn't require a password. The option is called something like picking another way to log in or something that is a small link under the MS account option.
If it's a Win 11 Home, then it's more complicated and I don't have a "quick" solution right now.

Thanks, I THINK it's Win 11 Home. I don't see a domain.

I tried this below, and it was fine up to Step 9. At Step 9, I was asked to name the computer, but I selected Skip for now, and now I see the same Unlock MS Experience, with the Sign In blue button.

At the select your region screen, selected Shift/Ctrl/F10, to bring me to DOS prompt, and typed in oobe/bypassnro

That seemed to disconnect me from any internet, it restarts the laptop. I select region, then keyboard. But after that screen, the next screen reads "Checking for Updates", then the next screen is "Name Your PC" whether I chose SKIP or fill in a name, the following the screen takes me to Unlock your Experience.

In the videos I've watched including some from 2024, the screen the presenter is showing on youtube reads "Let's Connect to the Internet", and below that splash screen is a link for "I don't have internet", which is what one is supposed to click. EXCEPT, I don't get that screen.

This is annoying as can be MS!

Because you 'have internet' with the adapter enabled and with an IP. When doing that method (or at least something similar), you shouldn't be connected to the webz.

I follow that and it has worked every time. :)

MS is working hard to piss everyone off. If you want, create a new account and login. If you decide to return it, just reset it first.

True!

I tried the Tom’s link earlier but it doesn’t work for me. However I think I’ll use the MS account, a dummy, then remove it as I found in another video.
Post magically merged:

They are! And that’s exactly what I’m going to do

Weird. That method has only failed me if I borked something in the process... like having internet connected. Maybe it's different as it's on a laptop? No idea.

GL, report back. :)

Yeah laptop, but I don’t think that’s it at all after surfing. All the common methods generally no longer work as MS has learned about them, and they got rid of them, that’s what I learned from a video. He was right - at least in my case. This is relatively recent too less than a year

Yeah... not sure what to say. I literally did this multiple times since late September and in October when I rebuilt all of my review OS's. I did it with W11 23H2 and 24H2.

That’s interesting that no issues popped up. once I log in I’ll have to see what win version is there

After testing out the laptop I’m going to return it, the native image viewer can barely move through the images I want to see. I didn’t expect this from that laptop, oh well.

Why is that? Underpowered hardware?
Not sure, it’s a core i5, 16G of RAM, integrated video card, and 512gig SSD

I’d expect it to allow me to look at pictures in a folder, hit the advance button. Yet it gets stuck at times when I want to advance to the next image, and I have to close the SW application to preview the images again.

I don’t remember having this problem with my Lenovo core i5 from 10 yrs ago, but I’m going to check.

Shame too, it was on sale for 400$, small form factor too. What a disappointment

Where are you reading the images from? Internal or camera? That doesn't make sense.
The SW used in both computers is called Photos.

The images were on the new laptop's hard drive. I tested the same images, on an SD card this time, but using my Lenovo Yoga 14 and had no issues.

It doesn't make any sense at all.

I checked the HP's specs I was wrong. Here's what they are

HP Envy 2 in 1, 14" 2K Touch Screen
Processor Model AMD Ryzen 5 8000 Series
16 Gigs RAM, 512 Gig SSD.

It runs Win 11.

The Lenovo is below

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.40 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.89 GB usable)

System type Win 10 Home, 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

That makes zero sense...Maybe troubleshoot some more, even reset Windows if needed if it was a good deal?
