HP laptop problems

I have a HP ZT1190 that would not reinstall windows xp or nothing else for that matter. I replaced the hard drive and I can now install ubuntu, but not XP.Before I relpaced the h.d. you could not install nothing. I prefer XP, it will say push any key to continue and nothing. I have 2 diffrent XP pro and neither will boot and install. Any ideas?? thanks

Test your RAM with memtest86. It could very well be a memory issue.

try using the HD manuf utility to wipe, partition, and format the HD.
