I got a new HSF today (MC-462). When I remove the old HSF, do I need to "clean" the CPU? The original was a Volcano III and left some residue from the thermal tape (I think). If I do need to clean it then how and with what?! I don't want to screw this up...

Take a razor blade and very gently scrape off any residue ot the tape. Then, using a lintfree cloth, use 91% alcohol isopropyl alcohol to remove anything left. Some people advocate lapping(light sanding with extrafine grit sandpaper) but if this makes you nervous, forego it.
