Summary: I was desperately trying to fit all my watercooling components in my case and have been de-attaching the tubing and re-attaching it constantly.

After about half an hour or so, I turned on the computer only to see my display completely garbled up.

I knew instantly that the problem was with the graphics card but I was really puzzled as I hadn't modded the card at all!

A couple seconds later, it all became clear. To my shock and horror, I saw water *DRIPPING* on the Radeon 9700 PRO!!!! The tubing finally had enough of me it seemed.

At that moment, I had 2 choices. I could either run to the bathroom or turn the computer off immediatly. I went for the second option.

Covered with sweat all over, I took the card out of the computer and ran to the bathroom! NOT TO TAKE A CRAP THOUGH!!! I put the card on one of the towels in the bathroom and gently pressed on it so that the towel sucked up the water. The card was literally soaked so I had to take a bit of time to dry it.

In my panic, after convincing myself that I had totally dried the card, I sticked it in my P3 to see what would happen.

To my ***GREAT RELIEF*** the display wasn't corrupted and everything looked fine. I am now typing on my P3 and no problems so far. I was using pure distilled water and thank god for that but I knew that once the water hit the tubes, it wasn't really totally non-conductive anymore so I was scared ****less.

In the end, the card works fine and I managed not to crap my pants but it was close... :D

common now..don't give up on watercooling that easy. those extra mhz with no noise are pretty dang nice

Hehe. I had a similar scare when I was first got into it. It seemed that the poly top on my then Polytopped Spiral from Dtek cracked and sprung a leak all over my then new GeForce3 Ti500. I had the computer had been off when it sprung a leak and after getting home and letting it bleed, I stupidly turned the computer on without inspecting the inside to make sure all was fine. It was running for a couple of minutes before I noticed the leak. I too almost crapped my pants. But after letting the video card dry for a couple of days and a little bit of blowdrying, I installed it back into another system and it worked to my amazement. I must say I learned a lesson. And for any of you who are afraid, WC is not completely safe, but the risks can be greatly minimized with just a few seconds of effort by double checking.

LMAO!!! I will keep this in mind. I am sure that these diapers will come in very handy when I make another attempt at putting everything in my case again.

The thing is, I was going one step at a time. I am not competely new to watercooling. I was running with the EXOS watercooling kit for some months but I wasn't really satisfied with it because it gave me high temps at overclocked speeds. In the end, I sold the kit and made myself a really nice custom kit but now it's a pain in the rear to stick everything in my case.

I first tried the kit outside the case (with the motherboard tray taken out) and everything ran fine. The radiator got HOT LIKE A MOFO though!! I have a MCW5000-PT to cool the CPU in this kit and it seems to work absolutely great but the BlackIce Xtreme could barely handle the heat with a 120mm Panaflo on it. As a result, I had to voltmod the Panaflo. I sticked the black wire to the -12v on the ATX connector and the red wire to the yellow on one of the molex connectors and the Panaflo suddenly became half a tornado at 24vs. it DID cool the rad a lot better though.

Anyway, after everything worked fine outside the box, I started getting the box prepared to have everything go in there. I ran into several problems doing that. First of all, the Meanwell PS that powers the TEC won't fit into a 5.25 drive bay (altough the specs say that it should) because it is too high. I had to put it at the bottom of the case. The pump then had a lot of problems reaching the bay reservoir without bends in the tubing so I ended up re-positioning it 20 times. Anyway, I got a very sweet looking case but it's going to be a MAJOR pain in the *** to be able to fit everything in. Wish me luck.

Do ya always wear that when upgrading Sam?

Yes because if you have an liquid spillage they absorb better than a towel.

Seriously, good luck shoehorning it all into your case m8, I'd be a little careful overvolting your Fan unless its rated to 24v.

Have you considered looking into a beefier fan rather than putting more volts into yours? The BlackIce Xtreme can use two fans in a Push Pull configuration, why not use two, as two is always better than one

I can never stress this enough when people water cool.

"24 hour testing BEFORE ANY COMPONENT IS POWERED UP"

And 24 hours, isn't 24 minutes, let it run for the full time, a leak might not be present at the time but it could occur after an hour of use.

I never had a scare WCing (thank fully). Glad to hear your cards all good though :)

That was exactly what I was about to say. Take all the WC stuff outside the case and test it for 24 to 48 hours on a newspaper to detect any leak. You'll read that on almost every post about W/C in this forum.

you've successfully scared me away from water cooling...

lmfao now you see my view on h20 cooling and as this is the reason i have 3 tornados ;)

That's exactly what I have done. I tested the system out of the case for a whole day and there were no leaks.

The problem is, the components would not fit in to the case with the hoses attached so I was forced to de-attach them and re-attach them. When I did that enough times, I must have caused a leak in one of the tubes.

good point....i recently had a fired psu/mobo. so im upgrading the system right now. im going to be getting a new psu/case/cooling ot replace the temporary, generic cooling/psu ive got now. i have really been itching to try a water cooling setup. so dont worry...i still go for water cooling. : )

ive thinked about the cheap watercooling kit at 1coolpc.com, what do you think about it? im afraid about watercooling too and mexico is god dman hot now!!!

Hahaha, I did the same thing as you BP. Only with mine it was a slow drip from the waterblock onto my 9700 Pro. I didn't notice it till after I filled the T-line a second time in a week. Anyway, what happened was the coolant hit the card, the water evaporated and eventually built a mini-stalagmite on my vid card. Card works great still!
