I am building a ..

Epox 8K3A
XP1900+
512mb DDR PC2700 Ram
Radeon 8500 64mb AGP Retail

Extra $$$? I'd wait for the Thoroughbred and get a Tbred XP1900+. They will run cooler and OC farther.

Either that or more RAM.

put it in an envlope and and send it to me

i woudl focus on makeing a old system better than buying a new one

get a better monitor or go for dual monitors if you get another pci vid card

get a new hdd

how does dual monitors work? I have never seen or heard of it.

You need a Dual Headed graphics card like some GeForce 2 MX, Matrox G450 & G550 cards. These basically have two adapters for monitors, plug a monitor in each.

you can also use 1 agp/1 pci, or two pci video cards for the same effect. I use it when I development software.

Have you ever had conflicts with two video cards? Just wondering.

some cards dont work together well, but I usually use a crap ATI card as you can't really run both with most games(believe it or not a couple games can be run on two monitors... I dont remember thier names though). But it's great for me because I can have my dev tools up on my main monitor and my database software and diagram on the other. saves tons of time really. I hate having a pile of paper to go though when I can looks something up on my computer in 5 seconds.

and I have always run the 1 agp/1 pci(I think you can run more than one extra video, so you could feasably have as many extra monitors as you do extra pci slots... dont hold me to that though I have not done it yet.) but I know that the 2 pci is possible. Also only windows Os after 98se support it. Once again I have not tried this with 2000 or XP(though I have a copy of both so if someone is interested I can do a quick install on my back up drive and test it for them to save them the trouble.

I think M$ Flight Sim can use >1 monitor. i'm not sure.

yeah it's pretty interesting to see but like I said I've only used it for development and normal windows/office work. one guy I worked with had two 19 monitors done this way. takes up a boatload of space but man was he productive. I would venture that flat panels would be a good thing to use with the multi-monitor configuration... I have two monitors on my desk right now as a matter of fact.

Ive done dual monitors as well. I had an onboard video and a RivaTNT2 ran this way. Ive also done it with the Riva and a ProphetMXII. Both were ran under 2k and 98se. No problems at all. Its a little tricky but surpisingly easy. If needed, I can help you out if your wanting to try it out. You can talk to me via AIM or Yahoo if needed. See my prof for the names.

Ive heard that someone actually had 6 monitors hooked up like this once. It was claimed that he ran QIII with it on all monitors as well. Which Im not to convinced about. I tried it to see if it would work and it wouldnt load on the second monitor. I dont know the game that well so I may not have set it up right for that. Dunno.... So I really cant say how certain games work with it.

Now as far as liking it? omg I freakin loved it. I would have all my optional stuff that I didnt need to see constantly on the secondary monitor and all the stuff I was activly doing on the primary.. I am planning on doing this again soon enough!~! Just need to get an extra vid card for it.
