Here's where I sit, and would like some suggestions as to what I can do.

The Problem: I would like to build an SMP rig for audio editing, but the board I have now, currently running with a single 1900, seems to have problems with the current processor selections.

The Board: K7D Master -L Rev 1

Option 1: MP's
Ok, I could load this with MP2600's or MP2800's but from what I'm reading (2cpu.com and here) the voltage regulators on Rev 1 of this board don't work well with the 2600 or 2800.

Option 2: Modded XP's
This would be a great solution except that the curtrently available XP's are die-locked and the Bartons have a FSB of 333, and this board is only capable of a fsb of 266, so my procs would be sevearly underclocked.

Option 3: Modded Mobile XP's
This would be the best solution except that mobiles aren't very stable in this board and I'd actually like to use the computer after I build it. From what I'm reading many people are having problems with freezing and cold boots, so as someone else has said it's probably the chipset, as it was never designed with mobiles in mind.

Option 4: Ebay, need I say more? I could hopefully pick up some MP2400's or older XP's and mod them.

Thanks for reading, if you have any info, reguardless of how "common" or "worthless" it appears, please post it, as any info is good info.

I dont know too much about this board, but would it be possible to flash the BIOS and then it would work better?

Or why not sell it on ebay and buy a Rev *? Then buy the two CPUs that you really want..

A question though, does AUDIO editting really need two CPUs?

If I were you I would look into getting a single P4C, they're a lot better for audio editting than Athlons are.

Welcome to the forums. :)

Most audio editing software is NOT multithreaded, so a faster single-CPU solution might be better for you.

What is it that you're doing that you need more processing power for?

Yes what I'm using is multi threaded, Vegas 5.0. I don't care how long it takes to do the final render, what I need is the ability to mix in real time with loads of effects across many (upwards to 20+) tracks, hence the desire for an AMD based SMP rig, as AMD is better at floating point calculations than Intel. I have decided that I'm going to try a single 2500 mobile (over clocked of course) in a Abit NF7 board for now. If I decide I don't like it I'll be able to sell it to my brother, he's a gamer. In the mean time I'm going to lurk on ebay and watch the market, and make buys as they come around, as I'd still like to get two processors in that board as it currently only has a single 1900. Thanks for your help.
