Probably, who knows. I see no problem with it, there is really nothing that interesting about my computer anyway :D

You only need watch out if you have something to hide :D

I have watched the packet traffic outbound on this box and have seen nothing that would construe what you say. Now Media Player and stuff is different they can under certain circumstances individually identify you but there is a switch in Media Player to stop that.

I heard something like that, but I haven't seen it. I also heard that Personal Firewall Software companies are being required to leave holes for this type of traffic.

Working for one of these companies, I wonder about people sometimes :)

Not true at all. Sometimes when you put a DVD in media player it'll send info. When you hit windows update it'll send info. However nothing like monitoring your computer usage.

Also--

By default, web searches will scan M$ websites first to return any hits, but this behavior can be switched off as well.

Press the search button in IE and then click on Customize (the text may be shortened to "Custom >>"). You will see all the M$-centric defaults and how to change them. Then press the "Autosearch settings" button at the bottom of that dialog to see that the default search engine is MSN. You can change that to something more useful like google.

Of course, if you are using some other browser, you don't have to worry about all the above.
