I just deleted my brothers computer, and had a file on it that I need tonight. I used Partition Magic 7.0 to delete it. Is there any way to get back the lost files?
It's NTFS format and I'm using windows 98 what should I do!?

normaly windows just deletes the first byte to your data, if you have Norton Recovery, you can probably recover it. ummm try that.

I thought I had all the files oh well you learn from your mistakes..

Is nortan recovery part of nortan anti virus?
can I use that in windows 98 to recover a hd in ntfs partition?
because even though windows can't detect it partition magic shore as heck could. :(

There's no way in hell you're going to get Window 98SE to read an NTFS drive without some sort of outside utility installed. Norton Antivurs does not come packaged with Norton recovery. If you used PM7 to delete the file, I'm assuming you took out the entire partition as well... you need to go look around Google and Download.com for an app that would recover partitions, else you're looking at a data recovery lab. This sort of thing of thing would be a piece of cake for any competent DRL, but it'll still cost mucho bucks.

Yeah, if you wiped out the partition with the file, it's (probably) not going to be a simple 'undelete' job. There is software out there that can recover deleted partitions, along with it's data, but for anything beyond trial versions of the software costs quite a bit...

Google around and see what the best you can do for free is.

I spoke to a technician and the way I had win2k on it was possible at that moment,
I need a data recovery that will install in windows and get back a ntfs partition and It wasn't a complete partition it just changed the first bite or something like that.
I was told a program but I forgot the name price doesn't matter at this moment.

Also remeber not to write anything to the harddrive untill you recover the file. This means don't do anything, and set your IE settings to its highest.

I think there is a simple DOS utility called Undelete but I don't know if thats true or not.

I am in middle of downloading a program called ontrack easyrecovery(I can't offerd to pay 200 just for one software)
How do I know it's not the demo?
I heard the demo messes up your hd.

it was his my documents folder that has his wifes (nurse in-training) homework that waws supposed to be sent in and other files like that.

will this file install on windows 98 and restore an ntfs partition because that is what I need.

I dunno if you'll be able to read an NTFS drive through explorer with the software installed. Can you do it through 2000? Like I said, 98SE doesn't have native support for NTFS, while 2000 does.

nope 98 doesn't have that but I heard some third party software can do that.
I really think ontrack easyrecovery will work one is that it's a very very popular download two is that I was told to use it buy a professional.
