ok i know this isnt to much related to computers but ill give it a shot ok guys i wana find a way to power up a car amplifier to my room so i need a way to plug a car amp into a outlet i have a 1600 watt amp and lots of subs i want a killer sound system for my computer so plz help me on converting.. thx guys

try an inverter.. you plug it into an AC outlet, and plug the amp into the Inverter and you get DC for your amp....they sell them at Radioshack, wallmart,kmart and lots of auto stores...

Not sure I completely follow what you mean but if I am I can tell you the way I have done it in the past. Kinda ghetto, but it worked and kicked!~!
I had a pair of 15" subs and a bose amp, Im not alot into car stereos, since I cant afford that and my computers so youll have to pardon the bad terms here...
I needed a way to power the amp for the subs, so I bought a battery charger that plugs into the wall. I tried doing a search so I could find a link to show you what I got but had no luck.. hmm..
Basiclly it plugs into the wall and charges the battery for the car.. It has a wall plug in, and has 2 of those pinch connections that go onto the battery. I plugged it into the wall and attached the pinchers to a wire and wired it straight into the amp. I was able to power the amp easily and it worked great... I was able to control the amount of amps and all that that went to the amp so I wouldnt put to much into it... Like I said... its generic, but it worked great!~!

Let me know if you need any more of an explination and Ill see what I can do for yea...

Luck

ok i understand u so u took a battery charger and ran the battery charger strait to the amp wouldnt that blow the amp? so jsut the car battery charger right no battery??

and to the inverter what kinda inverter??? im a little lost on the inverter thing

Well best way to do it and the safest. Is buy a 20Amp 12volt to 14 volt Power supply you can often find these on ebay at very good deals. Radioshack sells swithcing 20Amps supply for about 119 bucks.

Or if you have a couple old 300 watt PC supplies around you can hook them and they should give you about 20 amps or so at 12volts.

An Inverter is a device that you can plug into a 110v AC Socket..(same thing you plug your PC into), then you run your Power/Ground wires from your AMP to the inverter....The Inverter changes AC power to DC power(same as your car runs on).

they also sell DC inverters that you plug into your Cigg lighter and you can run things like TV's off of them in your car...

talk to someone at RadioShack...they will know what you need...make sure to get one big enough for that amp

No clue what all they are talking about..
but no it didnt cause any damage to the amp.

An Inverter takes 12 volts and take it to 120Volt AC not the other way something that take 120Volt and makes 12 is called a power supply LOL

You have it backwards ;)

hey can some one maybe help me find these items i feel soem dumb trying to find these items i waan get the right stuff so if anyone could help locate the items that be great i just wana go the cheapest route that works

hey so this thing can handle a high watt amp????

What's the VA rating on it? There are several 24/12 multi volt transformers on that site, but if you do some checking around, you should be able to find others that can meet your specs. The ones at grainger seem like they're a little high priced (considering I sell multi transformers at work that convert 220/120 to 24 for about 7-8 dollars, 15 bucks max. wholesale). Surf some electrical sites and see if you're able to find something better, but you'll need to know your va rating on that amp.:D

I'm not 100% positive bout this, but I believe a transformer reduces the voltage, an inverter increases the voltage. either way, you still only have the original available amount of amperes though. Just my 2c:D

Transformers can incress or reduce voltage depends on how you hook it up. The mass of the transformer will determin the amount of power you can get from the tranformer. A transformer uses magnetic fields to move/couple power from one side to the other side. There are 1:1 transformers that gives you the same voltage in as you get out. As well as 2:1 3:1 and so on. Just using a transformer will give you AC output not DC

You have to rectify AC into DC using diodes. Most often a 4 way bridge rectifer is used.

A power supply as I had said will reduce transform the the voltage to 15 volts AC change it to DC then there is a regulator circuit that will smoth out the output and keep it a somewhat constant. This will give you 12 Volts DC like a car would provide

The inverters are a bit more complex as they use 12Volts DC to make 120Volts AC. This is done with switching of the 12 volts DC to make and AC

DC= Dirrect Current
AC= Alternating Current

Model trains run on AC so all you needed was a transformer to reduce the voltage to amount needed by the train and then adjust the voltage to change the speed of the train.

You need a very good Power Supply. And power supply will take 110 volts and give you a nice clean 13 or 13.5 volts DC much like the car battery that would run that amp most the time.

I would start looking on ebay for 12volt 20 or 25 amp power supplies. You can even us a swithcing power supply for this as well. A 20 or 25 amp supply is not going to let you run at 1600watts but it would do a ok depending on how fast you want to go deaf :)

If you realy want to push the amp harder and closer to its 1600 Watt rating get a Car battery charger a battery and hook the amp up to the battey. The battery will supply the high current need of the amp and the charger will recharage the battery when the system is not in use. You dont even need to turn off the charger.

The only down side is charging lead acid batteries produces Hydrogen and as you might know can blow up on you. So you need to do it somplace with good air flow to keep down the build up of hydrogen. If the one battery will not last as long as you need it add another.

Good luck

i jsut wana hook it up in da outlet or sumtin long as i can get soem power in da watts if ic an get 500 out of it ill be happy im so retarded man can u help me find the parts ill buy the parts but im dumb when searching for them
