I am building a system around a Intel X6800 dual core with a Evga Nforce 680 motherboard using a 8800 GTX Nvidia graphics card. The problem that has risen is that on various forums people seem to think that next to a X6600 dual core the x6800 option is a waste of money. Can this be true? I should add that this machine will be used for gaming. Your help and advice is most welcome, as at the moment I'm well confused!!:-/

x6800 is a waste of money, the money saved is better used for say faster hd's. for the price difference of the e6600 to x6800 go with the E6600. you can then oc it a bit and get the same speed if not faster then the x6800. honastly there are so many things for you computer you would be better off using the extra money for then buying a x6800.

the x6800 is only worth it if you use extreme cooling (phase, ln2, dryice) and for extreme benchmarkers. You can get the same performance on air from an e6600 as you can from a 6800. The 6800 only has unlocked multipliers.

Hey guys think I will go for the X6800 option, as I have just purchased one for £300! What do you suggest for memory remembering my choice of board as mentioned in my earlier post?
