Welcome!

AMD is not my thing, however in my signature is a link on overclocking Bulldozer (your CPU). Check that out while the real AMD experts come in and help you out. :)

Why the 1KW PSU for a system that uses 250W? Yikes!

not understand . my system only 250w ?

You have a 1000W PSU and your system only uses around 250W. You could have saved $100 by getting a 500W PSU is all I am saying. :)

my GPu used me aroud 450w , my CPu another 95 , 550w is not enough to support my system . I got a higher PSu , the more overclock i can do . isnt it ?
If im wrong please correct me . Thanks

I'm not 100% positive that the higher psu will allow for more oc, I assume that you would want a little over yes for pushing the volts through. But like ED said, a 550w would be fine, 650w if you wanted to be safe. 1000 would be fine if you were running a xfire or sli setup ( and I'm not positive but it would probably still be overkill unless you were doing tri or quad xfire or sli)

**as a side note, I know its a different generation and architecture, but I have a Phenom II x2 555 unlocked to a quad, running with a xfx 6870 on a 430w antec psu. I believe the 6870 is pulling more power than a 6700.

Before you start on your oc adventure though, make sure you download cpuz, hwmonitor and prime95. Run P95 at stock to see your temps and then up your multi and test in P95 til it fails. Bump your vcore here and there as you fail P95 tests and keep an eye on core and cpu temps to make sure they stay in the safe range. Rinse, repeat and have a sammich until you hit your wall or achieve the clock your aiming for. Make sure its P95 stable for at least 2 hours. Good luck!

That GPU is around 108W TDP (assuming its a 6770) and seems to use less than that (96W). The number you listed is recommended for the SYSTEM, not for the GPU only. ANd they always overestimate.

No, a 1KW PSU for a system that draws 250W will not help with overclocking. A 550W PSU would have been plenty safe for any single GPU setup with overclocking heavily...truthfully that same 550W PSU would allow for TWO(2) 6770 cards with overclocking quite easily.

owh , cause I thought the higher PSu i got , the more far CPu can go .
Its okay , im planning to get a dual GPu as well afterwards .
so , any idea on overclocking my CPu and MOBO ?
Thanks for your comment
