ok, so after much googling around, I start my OC by just changing my Base clock via my Overclocking software that came with my mother board... I changed that base clock setting from 133 Mhz to 145 Mhz... every thing seems stable, but when I play dirt 2 in multiplayer mode, I keep getting disconnected and baned from the session I'm racing in... could the OC alone be doing that? Then when I'm playing BF3, while OC'ed, ever 3 to 4 seconds or so, I get like a screen lag... any body have any suggestions on what I can do to make this better...... PS... i'm new at OC...

oh, and my default frequency is 3.07Ghz. OC'ed at 3.5Ghz.

- OC software is MSI's that came with my board...
- System specs:
O/S Win7 64 bit Enterprise
I7 950 @3.07Ghz (Bloomfield)
12 Gig Kingston DDR3-1600 HyperX RAM
MSI X-58 Pro E Mobo
n460GTX Hawk Gpu 1Gig
Antec KÜHLER H2O 920 Liquid Cooling System
NZXT M59 Gaming Mid Tower Case
Cooler Master 700 Watt PSU

Any help here would be appreciated....

Rgds.

Usually with a bad oc you get bsod. Your best bet is to set your oc and run intel burn test or prime 95 for 15 to 30 mins. (intel burn do heavy load for 5 to 10 times) For 3.3 ghz I am set bclk@146 multiplier @ 23 cpu [email protected] qpi/dram core [email protected] dram bus [email protected] cpu [email protected] and rest on auto. I am stable at that but remember no two chips oc exactly the same so you may have to adjust up or down 1 increment at a time. make sure ht and turbo is disabled because when they are enabled it requires more voltage to the cpu, possibly generating more heat than that little cooler can handle. Also disable eist,c1e,cpu spread spectrum, and pcie spread spectrum. Manually set your RAM timings but only the first set of numbers, and the first 4 set of # ie:cas latency etc.
Word to the wise, leave the overvoltage protection for the cpu and oc protect on until you know exactly what you are doing sir! Enjoy and welcome to the forums!:welcome:

Wow, thanks for the quick reply here... first of all, with that little cooler you say... is my water pump not enough for this job? and as for the voltages, that is where I have 0 % clue on as what to do, and what not to do... and I've also read some thing about having 6 sticks of ram could make it little difficult to find that sweet spot. at present, running prime 5 at 100% my cpu temp never reaches 62 degrees... and my liquid temp only reaches 44 degrees...

I was teasing about the little cooler! 6 sticks is a LOAD and a half! I recommend 1 triple channel kit only for now only because it will be easier for you to get stable until you learn exactly what is going on. I have never used all 6 dimms yet and never had a problem simply because all 6 are not necessary at all.3 2 gig sticks or even 3 4 gig sticks is plenty. Best bet may be to check through the stickies up top of the oc forum to get a better idea on setting voltages. Your screen lag on bf3 may also be the load of the ram.Again, I would keep it at 1 triple channel kit, but just a suggestion.
Your temps are good at 62c. I am at 52 under heavy load, but my cooling set up is a little more "involved" for lack of a better word.
remember this, (4000 / 21 = 190) meaning what ever you want your oc to be,divide it by the multiplier and you will get your bclk or reverse, (bclk x multiplier gives you cpu frequency.Check this site out and let me know brother. It is full of exactly what you need to learn first as well as the stickies
